Making washable breast pads

Thread Starter
I will be needing breast pads soon and instead of buying them I plan on making my own since I have serger and all. I am just wondering what is the best fabric combination to use. Should I use a couple of layers of hemp fleece and a layer of felted wool knit on the back or would a layer of pull be better? I have also seen some that are all wool. I will more than likely need some heavy flow ones as I have had over active let down and oversupply issues with my other two.

I made mine out of flannel. I did a few with hemp and flannel. Hemp can become rough with repeated washings. So, if you use fleece, keep the fleece side in, and keep the flannel side next to you.
I'm not sure if you sew wool to them - can they still be washed regularly?
Be careful about adding PUL. Generally, it's best not to have waterproof lined nursing pads -wether disposable or cloth.
Good luck!

I'd do wool (or nothing, just hemp of cotton) instead of PUL so they breathe better

I made mine out several layers of old flat diapers. I wouldn't use PUL. You might want to give a try with wool and cotton or flannel if you need them to be really smooth under your shirt. I was teaching, so I didn't want to stand in front of the class with these round things being obvious. I found by making them about 5" in diameter they didn't show. I just zig zagged the edges. Just making that statement in case anyone reading who doesn't have a serger will know they can make them.

I made mine out of 4 layers of flannel. They were very comfortable and great in the wash.
