Mary & Joseph costumes in a rush - help!

Ok, I hope this is in the right place! My husband, 1mos ds and I are in a x-mas program as Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus. I didn't know until tonight that the costumes are not provided! Yikes - can anyone help me with some quick, easy and relatively cheap ideas for costumes? I am an average sewer and have lots of muslin fabric. Thank you so, so much in advance!

If there's a pattern sale this weekend (they usually start Friday) at Hancock or JoAnn, I think the main three pattern companies all have Biblical costumes in their costume section. You just need some basic garments. Just long tunics. And some wrap around fabric. Right

You could also just do something with big rectangles--one for the back, two for the front, two for the sleeves: you'd end up with a kimono style thing, which could be belted with a sash or whatever's handy. Joseph's headcovering could be a really big square of cloth, tied on with a strip; Mary (if you're into tradition) would need something blue over her head.

Can also make the tunic with big rectangles--just leaving enough room for a head opening, when you stitch the front and back together. I made a bunch of costumes last year for a pageant, and the pattern for the tunics was pretty much just the big rectangles.

This is a time when I wish it were possible to draw with the mouse, to show exactly what I mean!
