39 weeks pregnant, and a scare for me

I had my 39-week appointment last night.

I weigh myself before my appointments, on my home scale (for consistency if not accuracy), I've only gained 1 pound since 37 weeks for a grand total of 29lbs so far !

Get to the appointment a little early, and go to do my dip-stick.
But - wait, what's this ?
Glucose looks good.
Protein is getting darker and darker and . . . showing an EASY +2 to +3.

Now, I have to go sit in the waiting room for 15 minutes, because - as I mentioned, we were early.

Go in with my midwife - and what do you knwo, my blood pressure is up too - not out of the range of normal over-all, but high for *me* (at 120/70 - I average about 105/60).

I'm measuring 39 cms this week - up from 36/37 last Wednesday (less than a week), and the baby's heart-rate is in the 160's !!

So - we start talking about what the heck this protein could mean.
- Could be a contaminated sample (thanks DH ) ??
- Could possibly have something to do with the antibiotics I'm on ??
- Could be a bad stick ??

Okay - so agreeing to re-do the sample and let the midwife check the stick.

Back to the bathroom, pee and dip.

And even DARKER this time.

I can feel my heart-rate increasing. For some reason, spilling protein scares me.

I go get the midwife and she comes in, looks at the stick and starts to giggle - then asks me what I had had for lunch and dinner !

I'd mis-read the stick. Yeah - I'm spilling something in a BIG way, but it is NOT protein. (insert sigh of relief).

My glucose is off the charts, but no protein. And it's too late in the game to really look at glucose testing, especially since I snared one of my hubby's chocolate bars mid-afternoon yesterday

So, we go home, and a girlfriend picks me up for our monthly homeschooling parents meet-up night. What do I do - go and get a Stawberry Julius and a chocolate chip cookie !

Oh yeah - the midwife offered to check me if I actually wanted to try to stimulate things - but when I declined that said that she was not surprised *g* This particular midwife really seems to "get" me - and got that I was just complaining about being "done" and not really ready to do anything about it. We did talk about EPO and RRL tea though. I'm taking EPO orally, and feeling ready to start internally as well. But I've only got 3 RRL teabags left, so I've got to get more - good thing I really do like that stuff.

And - just for fun - I did ask this midwife what she would guess this baby's size to be, as I have an idea myself and was curious to what more experienced hands would say. She said she thinks this baby is already over the 8lb mark - closing in on 9lbs now. Which basically works with what I'm thinking - I've got more a feeling that this baby is a bit longer than my other kids were (both were 20" even), and likely well filled-in too. I'm guessing aroudn 9 lbs and 22".

Wow, glad it turned out to be nothing really serious! And it sounds like you're growing a well-rounded baby in there !

I'm glad too - the thought of spilling protein scared me pretty bad - my mom had toxemia when she was pregnant with me (same as pre-e I think), so I've heard stories all my life.

Glucose - not great, but NOT scary either.

As for the baby - my DD was 8#12 and 20" - a large baby does NOT worry me in the least. I've been telling people all along I'd go 42 weeks and have a 10-lb baby this time.

That's not such bad news, hey?! Would have been a scare for sure. Easy on the chocolate, mama

I'm jealous of those roly poly babies! I'm aiming for at least 8lbs, but I don't know if I'll get there.

Spilling protein is a huge fear of mine - I'm so glad it was only glucose. But I'm there with you - near the end all it seems I want is sweet stuff... Congrats!

Whew! So glad it wasn't protein!

I'd like a 8+lb-er myself. Bigger the better (to a point LOL)!

I've had a 7#8oz baby, and an 8#12oz baby - same length. What a difference that pound makes on a 20" baby !
