So if your water just leaked ***Update***

So if your water just leaked instead of broke, what was it like? I think I may have leaked the tiniest bit of water twice this morning. It had a very faint pink tint to it... so if it was "bloody show" then it wasn't nearly as "bloody" as I thought it would be. lol

I only had the two small leaks and now they've stopped. Each one was about a teaspoon. I'm not having contractions or anything yet but w/ the pink tinge I'm pretty sure it's not urine.

This happen to anyone else? What was your experience like?

I had a slow leak with my second child. I was 11 days past due and I woke up during the night to use the restroom. I noticed that fluid was squishing out whenever I moved, but if I lay still no fluid came out. I peed and then went back to bed but fluid kept sort of squishing out whenever I changed position etc. so I got a towel and put it beneath me and fell asleep. When I woke several hours later, the towel was saturated. It looked clear and it didn't have a smell to it. I called my doula and she said it sounded like I had a small leak. I wasn't having any contractions; contractions didn't start until late that afternoon. In the meantime, I walked and labored at home.

Well I put a pad in right after my "leak" happened, and took it out a couple of minutes ago... no more "water" but there is a smattering of brown and pink spotting. So not sure if anything's starting to happen or what. Also when I wiped there was a small pink spot too.

I'm not even due until Saturday and was so thinking this baby would be late. Maybe he/she will surprise me by coming early.

Ok so right after that last post... I went back into the kitchen, and was standing there, and felt two tiny pops... then about 1/2c of water came out. I went into the bathroom to investigate and it had soaked through my underwear and made a sizable area on my pajama bottoms too. I had DH get me some new underwear and I put a pad in it (a pad from a package that we just bought YESTERDAY when we got some last-minute baby needs ) and have been feeling mini-gushes into the pad since I put it in.

The water had a little blood in it, but from all the labor/birth stories I've read, this is normal, right? And as far as I could tell, it was ONLY blood and no green tint. I'm not having any regular contractions yet and had planned to go to the store AGAIN to get a few more things that DH and I forgot yesterday... so we are still going to do that. :P

We are having a hospital birth but haven't called L&D yet. I don't really want to be put on a deadline of giving birth so that is why.

DH was doing a Tai Chi video when it broke... I wasn't sure how to tell him so I said he needed to call his coworker and tell her she would need to work the next few days, b/c "I think my water just broke." Now he is running around, just having to DO something, and is so excited. I will let him keep all the adrenaline and I will stay calm.

Sounds like it is amniotic fluid! A couple of things I tell my doula clients: Assuming the fluid is clear, and baby is moving (and you feel pretty sure the baby is head down and engaged?), then you may consider taking a little time to alert your caregivers if you don't expect them to be very supportive of a low intervention birth.
Are you GBS- ? Then if I were you I'd try to sleep/rest, or at least have a good meal. Then if you feel rested, go for a nice walk and have a shower before heading to the hospital. If you feel your caregiver is generally supportive of your decisions, you'd want to go in to have the baby's heart rate listened to, then go home to wait for labor (some places say 12 hours, some 24, some 48... well, okay only birth centers say 48 or 72 in my experience). Going into the hospital with your first baby with water broken and no ctx is not ideal, so best if you have ctx first. Remeber 70% of women begin ctx on their own within 24 of ROM.

The pink is likely discharge as your cervix is thinning out and getting ready to open. Good luck and best wishes!

I am GBS negative, and baby has been head down pretty much this whole time... His/her butt has always been in my top left quadrant and I've been feeling most of the kicks in my top right quadrant. Not sure if baby is engaged yet though. He/she was just "starting to drop" as of my last appt 2 weeks ago. (Yeah I'm supposed to be on weekly appointments and my last appt was supposed to be on 12/1 but the office was closed b/c of the ice storm.) They rescheduled it for today at 3:00 pm. Don't think I'll make it.

I am starting to have a few contractions that are a little stronger than the BH's, and where the BH's would just all of a sudden be a tightening all over, these new contractions feel slightly more wave-like.

Time to shower and pack our hospital bag... DH is very antsy since that hasn't been done yet. Not sure when I'll be back online since our doula is coming over and I'll be getting things ready... so everyone wish me ELV's.

Ohh it sounds so exciting! Kudos to you for being so calm and patient! Are you very early with your labor? I was just curious cause you said that you were just about about start your 1 week appts.

Good luck!

I was actually about to "finish" my weekly appointments. I am 39w2d today. DH and I just got back from our last LAST minute baby-clothes run and baby was moving fine and I've been having contractions. Our doula lives out of town and had to get childcare for her 18 month old and 6 month old, and said she would be able to head this way about 1:00.

I am still in very early labor b/c I can still talk and do things through the contractions. (Do things like pack the hospital bag... DH is nervous that it won't be packed and we'll have to leave. ) Guess I better get on that so he can relax.

Ok so at my last LLL meeting, one of the ladies there offered to do some newborn pictures for one of the other moms. A week or so later, I wondered if she might do my maternity pictures... so I sent her an e-mail.

She just got back w/ me this past weekend and I was supposed to call her today. I called her and there was no answer so she called back later and I told her we probably wouldn't be able to do the maternity pics b/c I was in labor. Then she got all excited for me and said that we should still do them, just NOW. (she said "just think of the story you can tell") So DH and I are going over there in a few minutes. :P

Physical updates: I'm still having some blood but baby is moving fine. Some of the blood is brown. The contractions are fairly frequent (3-ish minutes apart) but I don't think I'm in active labor yet b/c they are so short and mild still. They aren't any worse yet then the menstrual cramps I used to have. I did finally call my dr's office and left a msg for them to pass on to my dr that I probably wouldn't make my 3:00 appointment today. :P I just hope I have the baby sometime before the office opens back up in the morning so that my dr can deliver me w/o having to make too many arrangements for other appointments, etc.
