Ok, after a great deal of discussing our baby boy has a first name. A middle name is still to come.
His name is Cyrus
He was born at 11:10 (I think) on Dec 2nd
He was 7lbs 14oz and 21 1/2 inches long.
At about 6pm I started feeling some random pressure off and on. we went to dinner and it continued. When we got home i got in the bath to see if it would stop. when it didn't we paged the midwife. She didn't call back bcs she had been out of town and her plane had just landed. We then called the back-up and she was over in about 15min. She checked me and i was a 6 so we started filling up the birthing pool. Then my midwife showed up so I got to hav both of them there. I climbed in at 9pm and the water felt great. I was using hypnobirthing and it worked as well as it has the last 2 times. I love that method. I started pushing at 9:30 and everyone gathered around the pool. My brother woke up hte boys and everyone was waiting. (last time the baby came w/ the 2nd push). I pushed and pushed and he just wasn't decending. I sent the kids out of the room for a while and labor slowed (I think I am just used to all of the chaos). All 4 kids had a chance to get in the tub and that was exciting for them. A little after 11 I asked the midwife to check me so we could see why the baby wasn't moving down. She went and got her gloves. I got a surge and asked her to wait until it was done. It was so long (I think about 3 or 4 min). At the end of hte surge I heard all of hte kids running in just as I felt the babies head crowning. His head came out face down and he didn't turn so then his back came out facing up. It was a strange feeling (Different then the others). Dh and i brought him up to my chest. I felt a weird pop and then there was a plume of blood in the pool. My midwife started searching for the cord and it had shredded completely in half.
the backup midwife grabbed the clamps and they clamped the babies cord and my cord. He was very white, had low tone, and was not responding. My midwife flipped him over to rub his back and that is when I noticed he was a boy. Then she gave him mouth to mouth and blow by oxygen but she was able to do it all on my chest. His color returned fairly quickly and his tone came back. I passed the placenta w/ no problem then he latched right on. He is nursing great! My milk just came in last night.
All of the kids got to be there and we got their reactions on video, it was wonderful. I was able to stay calm and relaxed even w/ the "excitement" afterwords. I was so happy that all of the resuccitation could be done right on my chest while I held him.
I will keep you posted when he gets a middle name.
