My water broke...

...just a trickle around 7:00am this morning when I was still in bed. By 8:00 or so when I got up, a little more came out and I had a serious spot (sorry about the TMI).

I thought I just wet myself, but the leak continued throughout the morning. They had me scheduled for an NST (which turned out fine) at the hospital around 1:00pm anyway, so I didn't have to sweat the "IS IT OR ISN'T IT?" question. As it is, I was gushing furiously went in to register before the test.

I had hoped for some contractions, but there were none. The younger midwife from my OB's office showed up and checked me some time later. I'm still at 1cm, no contractions. I was sent home to wait it out until morning because the fluid was clear and no sign of infection.

Tick tock!

They want me at the OB's office at 9:00am. I've got 48 hrs to go into labor on my own, or else-- surprise!-- I will be forced with an induction anyway.

Anyone have this happen?

Any chance you can go in for an acupuncture session? That's pretty well known for triggering labor. If not, you can find the accupressure points for labor online...one is the outside of your little toe, one is a few inches above the inner part of your ankle.

Come on contractions!!!!

Kind of...with ds2, my water broke at 2:30pm (just after a NST) and nothing happened until 8 or 9 that night, I think. And then that was just contractions 8-10 minutes apart until 9 the next morning, when things picked up. I went in at around 6 pm that first evening at the insistence of the hospital staff. They were wanting to give me some pitocin in the AM if nothing was happening on its own. It did, so we didn't have to have that discussion

If I were you, I'd go for a walk tonight to try and get things going, and then get a good rest. Chances are, labor WILL get started on its own. Be thankful your OB is giving you 48 hrs before he/she gives you any trouble That's a nice long time.

It's pretty common to leak for awhile before things get going. Sometimes they seal back up, too - but if you had some show, I wouldn't think you'll be sealing up.

My water broke with dd aroudn 5:00am, contractions didn't start until around 2-3pm, and even then weren't steady. Steady contractions didn't start until almost midnight that night. Most women have contractions within 24 hours.....don't sweat it too much! Definetly get some good walking in though and try to rest some!!! Hoping to hear your birth announcement soon!!!!!!!

I'll be sending you some labor vibes. It stinks to be on the clock. My water broke first with both labors, but contractions started right away. Maybe you can try a homeopathic remedy if you know someone who can tell you which one would be appropriate.

My water was broken for 5 days before starting labor with my first baby. Looking back, I know now that it was because she was in a bad position and her head wasn't being applied properly to my cervix. If I were you, I'd start doing some hands/knees positioning and check out the Spinningbabies website for help getting baby into a good position. Lean forward with all that you do- no reclining.

(fyi- dd was born "asynclitic" (head cocked to the side) with a hand up by her face, and was facing the ceiling. I don't know how much worse it could get position wise!)

I refused induction since I had no signs of infection and I had a slow leak. Glad I did, because it probably would have lead to a c/s since baby was in such a bad position.

Not to me - but my sister. She lives in the UK. Her water broke around 6 am at 41.1 weeks. She hung out all day, then finally called the midwives around 5 or 6 PM. They had her come in, did a NST and verified it was indeed amniotic fluid, then sent her home to rest, with the understanding that she would be induced the next day (10 AM NST, then cervadil to ripen for 6 hours before thinking about a pit drip). She got home around 10 PM, and went into labor at 11 PM or so. The baby was born at 6:17 AM the next morning, aprox. 1 hour 15 min after arriving at the hospital.

I was SO impressed with the UK medical system and their wait-n-see approach. I know in my area it is standard to put you on a 24 hour clock once it breaks...

Sending lots of contraction vibes!

I've not had this happen but wanted to say YAY!!! I'm so happy for you! I'm also really pleased to hear your time table is 48 hours, instead of the standard 24! That's awesome! Time tables aren't great, but yours is lenient compared to most.

Sending you lots of ELV! ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~~*~*~~*~*~*~*~*~*~
