What causes baby to drop?

Is it something to do with the baby being ready, or the pelvis being ready?

I am going to go crazy if she doesn't descend a little soon. I can't breathe, I am practically out of breath walking from one room to another, and don't get me started on the heartburn.

I have been talking to the baby trying to get her to come down.... bouncing on the birth ball.... walking a lot.... doing yoga.... I think she's just stubborn like me. I'm 38w 1d by the way.

Don't know...maybe ask in I'm Pregnant?

I don't think there's anything you can do to make it happen, though.

hmm... I'm not sure how to 'make' the baby drop down--I think it is a combo. of the pelvis and the baby being too big to not drop down... maybe baby is positioned weird in the womb? Have you discussed this with your midwife/ob?

Walking a lot usually does it for me-- walking walking walking... but I've also had 2 kids already so I'm 'broken on' so to speak...

My mw actually said that first babies drop sooner than subsequent ones .. reason being that women who have had babies before have more room, and the baby doesn't get "stuck" in that position till labor is more imminent. Not sure about that, and that doesn't really answer your question........

Nope, baby is in the perfect position according to my MW. I guess she is just not ready to come out yet. It's my first baby and i'm 38w 2d, so it's not like i'm overdue or anything, just impatient!!! I think she might be one of those 42-weekers!
