I have been meaning too reply too you since you posted under my 30wk visit, about helping me try toounderstand my blood work.. Thought I would take a stab and post eveyr thing that is off with me.

I have done SOME looking, but all that comes up during my search is AIDS stuff, which is a big fear of mine. I had a transfusion after my birth with Nic..Anyway, I wonder how much of this bloodwork, and being off has too do with my Hashimoto Thyroiditis. I see my Endo this Friday, so was going too take these tests with me, and ask him about them..

If you notice I am not off by MUCh in some of these tests, but still I would like too see ALL NORMAL ranges .. Not High or low readings.

Anyway, there is quite a bit, so here you go, and THANK YOU for offering too help me figure this out.

Carbon Dioxide 20 Low reading.. ref range is 21-33mmo/ll

Albumin 3.6 low ref ranges 3.7-5.1 g/dl

Whit blood cell count 12.0 High reg ranges 3.8-10.8 thousand/UL

red blood cell count 3.77 low ref ranges 3.80-5.10 million/ul

protein total * 24 hr urine * 97 High ref ranges NONE just says high..

Absolute Neutrophils 9408 High ref ranges 1500-7800 cells/ul

HCT 34.0 Low ref ranges 37.0-47.0

HGB 11.7 Low ref ranges 12.0-16.0 g/dl

Urea Nitrogen 5 Low ref ranges 7-25 mg/dl

Like I said, I know most of these are just barely out of range, but they still have me curious enough too figure out what all this means.

Feel like taking a stab at it

Hmm... lemme see! I don't have a lab book handy, but I'll try to go off what I can remember/think of right now...

CO2 - I would be more concerned if this was high, because that would tell me something was not right with your breathing possibly. It affects the acid/base balance of your blood. Your reading is actually so close to normal, if you had it done at another lab with a different machine, it would have possibly been fine.

Albumin - same thing as above, it is so close to normal that at another lab, it may have not been flagged as abnormal.

White count - usually this is up because of an infection. I *think* but am not 100% sure, that it can be a little higher in pregnancy. I would have to look that one up to be sure.

Red count - I see you are slightly anemic, so to have this down a bit is not a surprise.

Protein in your urine - If you have high blood pressure, that could be why your kidneys are spilling protein. I had a bit in mine at the end of my last pg, and that can be normal too, but offhand I don't know what they would expect at around 30 weeks pregnant. Like you said, they did not give you a normal range. Some healthy adults spill protein in their urine just by being up and active, and it's OK.

Neutrophils - those are white cells and again, could be normally elevated during pregnancy. Another one for me to look up.

HCT - I'd expect that to be a bit low because your blood is diluted (you normally have more water in your blood) while pregnant.

HGB - It looks like you are slightly anemic, but, again that can be because of a normal increase in the amount of water in your blood while pregnant.

Blood Urea Nitrogen - a low reading is fine - a high reading could mean kidney failure. It's not at all uncommon for a young, healthy person to have a lower than normal BUN.

OK I'm off to look up the white blood count stuff, and I'll report back to you

OK I was right about the WBC's and neutrophils - both are elevated, probably due to being pregnant. Here's a link if you want to read about CBC's.

You're welcome! Sometimes it's kinda fun getting my brain picked. I am wondering, though, what they will tell you about the protein in your urine. Why did they do a 24 hour - was it because of your BP?

The 24 hr urine was too test for Pre-e... They never said anything about this blood work. This blood work is 3 wks old. I called them a few days after they ran these labs, and they told me everything was normal.
