37 week app today

so i had my 37 week dr app today. It went pretty well-Dr said baby's head is pretty low down so thats good. He also said the baby is going 2 be littler then my last baby who was 7 lbs 3 oz. my dr thinks this baby will be around 6 lbs only i really don't get it either cuz i've gained way more weight with this one. With my last pregnancy my dr predicted deontrell would be 7 lbs and he was pretty on with that prediction, so i'm sure he's right now too. I don't know why its such a big deal to me but it is. Doesn't 6lbs seem small, really small or is it just me?

FWIW, I don't think there's any way a doc or midwife can all that accurately predict weight by palpation alone. It just isn't that reliable. Even ultrasound measurement of weight can be off by +/- 2 lbs I believe.

6lbs isn't small as long as you are eating healthy and the baby has been growing okay overall. And don't be surprised if your little one is bigger than your doc is telling you, kwim?

As a mama whose last baby was only 3 pounds, 6 sounds HUGE, but that's just me. I totally understand how you feel, just remember it's not the size that counts...wait, that's came out wrong.

Please don't worry about it! 6lbs is within the range of normal, and plus... even if he was right before... guesstimates about baby size are NOTORIOUSLY inaccurate. My midwife has been delivering babies for 20+ years and when I asked her to guess the weight, she said... "I would GUESS she is about 6 lbs now." Carefully saying GUESS because it is just so hard for them to tell definitively.

When I used to watch those awful shows on Discovery Channel about birth, I saw several where mama's were forced into c-sections because their babies were too big... only to deliver 7 or 8 lb (normal!) babies. One was a hemophiliac! :! Honestly, you just can't tell.

Besides, your babies health is measured by more than weight and it sounds like it's ALL going well!!!

ETA... Plus you're still only 37 weeks! Your baby is right on schedule for 37 weeks!!!!!

Guesstimates are often wrong...and you have at least 3 weeks to go so no worries, mama Lots of times docs tell moms 'your baby is going to be really big, over 9lbs' and they have a 7 lber. So I bet it goes both ways!
