Can someone help me too understand something..

Ok........ for the past 2 days i have been dealing with sharp shooting pains in my cervix, and the baby has been laying low.. Normally this sensation will let up. Today i was feeling alot of pressure down there, it was hard too walk, along with the shooting pains in my cervix again.. So I called my OB, and they sent me too L&D too get checked out.

I get there, and they hook me up, and then cjeck my cervix. The Nurse there told me that I was about 1CM dialted, but that my cervix was really thick. I was told too get up and walk around for an hr, which I did. The the Nurse from my OB's office came in this time too check me one more time. She said that the bottom portion of my cervix was open, about 1 CM, but the inner portion was closed.. Like she was not able too gether finger all the way inside me cervix ( what does this mean ) ? She also said that my cervix felt long, and is pretty thick.

So, I have been checked 3 other times prior too this, and I was always told I was nice and closed, long and thick.. Except this cervical check..So, I am really confused as too what is going on down there..

Also...... I have a question about contractions.. I KNOW what I am feeling.. It is that same darn sensation. Tightening and loosening down low, ( i had 4 the first hr I was there, only the machine is not picking them up ) Now when I get this feeling , My cervix will get this pinching stabbing type feeling in it along with the tightening and loosening.. IS this considered a contraction? Or No? The Nurse from my OB's office told me that this is not considered a contraction, and that I should totally ignore them. Which I have been doing.. Only now I am not too sure what too think? Can what I am feeling cause cervical changes?

All the nurse said too me was this.. I really do not think anything is happening down there, so we will see you in the office in 2 wks.. well then why say I am 1CM dialted.. I am really confused, and have no idea what too think.

I know what I am feeling, whether the machine picks anything up or not.. I know it is NOT round ligament like they say it is.. I am not feeling a stretching, I am feeling a very distinct tightening and loosening..Only difference now is I am getting the pinching type sensation in my cervix, where as before I did not have that cervical feeling.. just confused now..:

Can anyone tell me what all this means.. I never dialate, which part of me is happy about, but the other part says, you are not even 31wks yet..So how do I know when too run or when too blow it off.....??:

I guess I would call to speak directly to your OB. Make sure he/she has also come to the same conclusion.
Are you constipated? My cervix always acts up when preparing for a bowel movement and of you're moving slow, it may be making that sensation.
I think dialation this easrly sounds like something that you should be absolutely sure about. If I've noticed one thing about the med field is that everyone comes to a different conclusion, so keep asking!
Good luck

My midwife was just telling me if I get sharp, biting pains around my cervix to call her. In her experience, those sharp, biting, pinching "contractions" can be a sign of beta strep. Have you had your beta strep test yet?

I may have had this with a few of mine. To me it kind of felt like a nerve being hit. With ds1 I was waiting tables and standing at one of them taking an order. I had this sharp pain in my lower uterus/cervical area that literally brought me to my knees. I stood back up and finished taking their order without them noticing! My doc had no clue what is was and I had it after that but not constant. I think it has to do with baby's positioning.

I don't have any advice, but would love to know what is going on also. It sounds very uncomfortable... to you.

Well I called this morning too find out if I was dilated or not..Pam, who chekced me last night, was not there,, So my OB said too listen too what Pam had too say. All she said was I do not think anything is happening up there, so I am just going too go by that.

Jude Rose.. No I am not constipated..I really think and HOPE it was just the baby pressing on the cervix causing the nerve ending too give off that feeling.. I hopw what I am feeling is not something that causes cervical changes. I have been really paying attention today too the *feeling* and I noticed when he moved, I would get that feeling in my cervix, so I think it ia him causing it.. Only thing is he is DOWN LOW more then up that it never seems too go away..Irritating feeling, especially when it feels like an all day sensation:

I have had that sensation with this pregnancy, but I also have a cerclage (stitch in my cervix). Up until a couple weeks ago the cerclage was very uncomfortable. It could also be the baby. I can feel our little one moving around on my cervix and it isnt very comfortable. It could also be pressure. My last pregnancy the pain in my cervix from the pressure was almost unbearable, which is a possibility if he's so low.
As for the dilating part. I ended up in the ER after some serious bleeding after a 21 weeks loss in Jan. of this year. The OB checked me and said that the outter portion of my cervix was open but the inner part was closed and she said all they worry about is the inner portion. It makes sense that the inner portion would have to dilate first since thats what the baby would be going through first. Its a good sign if your cervix is long and thick.

kristen, you have had other children, so it's not unusual that your cervix is 1.) open enough to admit a fingertip and 2.) starting to change already for the birth.

when you are quiet and sit with yourself and baby and ask yourself honestly what is happening, what is your answer? if, in your heart of hearts, you feel something is really wrong, don't stop looking for answers until you get one other than "everytihing is fine." if, in your heart of hearts the answer is "don't worry," then take some time to be with yourself and relax and chill.

i think if you rely on someone outside yourself to reassure you or give you answers only you can give yourself, you will not truly be calmed.

sit quietly with your baby and your body and see what you need at this point of your pregnancy. and i would strongly suggest keeping other people's hands out of your cervix if you are concerned with dilation. the more times she is touched, the more reacative she becomes. better to let her rest and not be bothered at this point.

PS, drinking a glass of jucie will likely make the baby move and relieve any funky pressure you have. also, for me if i feel really rotten (crampy, uncomfortable, overly pregnant) i am usually just tired and laying down makes me feel better.

The shooting pain in your cervix sounds like it could be a weak pc muscle?
