Glucose test...

So, I got a call today from MW's office. They got the results of my GTT. My test results came back TWO points over their cutoff. Now they want me to go in and do the three hour at the hospital. I'm supposed to go tomorrow, and I just don't know if I should do it. Right before I went in for the first test I had half a slice of bread, which I thought was ok. Turns out that the darn bread is really high in carbs, so MAYBE that is what put my sugar levels up over the top???
What would you guys do?

I personally would tell them that I pass on the 2nd test but if I am having any symptoms I will let them know.

there are at least two other threads on this in this DDC, you might want to check them out. just to repeat myself, what is the point of a test that so many women will fail simply becuase they are pregnant?

the GTT doesn't show anything about what is really happening with your BGLs and is worthless as a diagnostic test.

I failed the gd test too. I regret taking it now. It was right before we moved, and I was stressed out and not eating well. I am planning on declining the 3 hour test and asking for a script for a glucometer if my new mw pushes the issue.

Wow, that seems really close to normal though. I would decline the 3 hour test if I were you, I am sure you are fine.

Offer to instead randomly check your blood sugar after fasting and again an hour after a regular meal a few times.

Thanks Ladies! I really didn't want to go do that darned test again today esp. since I just about tossed my cookies after the first one. Your replies have been just enough to put me over the edge. I'm not going in to do it! It just feels completely wrong to me, and I really didn't want or plan to do the first one.

Thank you all for giving me that last little bit of courage I needed to refuse this stupid test!

the bread is probably what did it. my mw told me to avoid carbs as much as possible for a few days before the test. since they are the only thing i can stomach really well it was hard but apparently it must have worked. i'm just glad that the drink i got wasn't orange. all the sugar in my system made me pretty shaky though which was no fun:

see, this is the thing i really don't get..... when your caregiver *tells* you what to do to pass the test. i think for me that pretty much proves that even the caregiver knows the results are crap. so why is she giving it? that's my big question, if you know it's crap, why are you giving it? standard of care? that's pretty lame in my book. if you know it's crap, skip it. CYA medicine just makes me so mad. not only is it worthless, it's bad care.

It's really funny. I have two midwives...my Medwife...and my hb midwife. I finally got in touch with my hb mw today and she was appalled that they had me eat before the test. She NEVER has her patients eat before hand. I guess I'm lucky I only ate half a slice of bread. If I'd eaten a full breakfast like the medwife's office told me they might have sent me straight to the hospital

Anyway, my hb mw is going to do a couple of finger prick tests at home for me so that the medwife's office will be appeased. So, today turned out to be a great day. I feel so much better about the whole situation. And next time I WILL NOT TAKE THE GLUCOLA TEST!!! It's NOT worth it!!!

P.S. I don't want to make CNM's sound bad or anything so I hope noone takes it that way. I really love my CNM, but she has these rules she has to follow because of the practice she's in, so....My hb mw is also a CNM, but because she works in her husbands practice she has more freedom.
