Cute DH story

Yesterday my DH took time off work on impulse to go to the library to look up childbirth. He was talking to his mom on the phone a few nights ago, and she was asking how I was feeling, etc. She mentioned something about, 'hope your midwife lives close' in reference to my fast labors. When DH said MW lives close to an hour away, MIL exclaimed, "Wow! You might be catching that baby (although she said 'delivering', I've taken the liberty of writing what she should have said lol)!" DH responded that he would wake up our eldest DC to catch the baby since 'no way' is he going to do it . So that got him thinking I guess, because he told me he looked for books, got on the internet and now he's "ready for a breech even!" Heeheee! I asked, "So, should I just call the MW and tell her 'we're good' and don't need her anymore since you're so 'set'?" He vehemently said, "NO! Don't do that! I'm just ready in case I need to be." LOL! He even got our copy of "Where There Is No Doctor" down from the attic to 'brush up' on how to be an attendant! I think this is so cool and I feel so protected, mostly that he's doing all this rather than insisting that I just go to a hospital.

Awwww....that is so cool! What a great DH!!!

My DH is a trained EMT, so he knows what he would need to do, but would freak if he actually had to catch the baby himself . I asked him once what he would do if he ever went on a call with a woman about to give birth. He said he'd bring me with .

That is really sweet!!! My husband just read the whole Hypnobabies birth partner guide from cover to cover and came home going "tell me about your special place... what does it smell like... I have to be able to guide you there!" They are so cute how excited they get!

Mine just says, "you birth, I'll catch".

I think mine feels queasy just looking at the stash of chux pads waiting in the family room for the birth.

For dd2, born in a birth center, we actually put in our birth plan, "Please do not ask Dad if he wants to cut the cord. He doesn't."

My dh is the same way! Completely needle-phobic. I actually cut the cord for dd#1! Oh well. He was still very supportive through everything...just the cutting and needles put him out.

Wow, that is neat, especially since he made a trip to the library to research

Awwwwwww...sweet!

Reminds me of a story about DH's aunt. Back in the early 70's, she was pregnant with #8, and found out her doctor was not going to be in town when she was due. They lived in a small town, and no other doctor practiced OB. She was livid, and so was her husband (DH's uncle). So they went to the library, checked out every book they could get on child birth, and delivered that baby at home UA (that is for unassisted, right?)! Baby was perfectly fine...he is now a daddy himself at age 35!
