I have seen this mentioned here, so gotta ask When you speak of Mag, is there a certain kind you buy? I went too go buy some this evening at GNC, and was confused by all the kinds there..I just ended up buying a combined Magnesium/ calcium supplement.. 1 pill, 3x's daily offers 1000mgs of Calcium, and 400mgs of magnesium.. Plus something I didn't see when I paid for the bottle.. it also had Zinc, and copper in it..15mgs of zinc oxcide, and 1mg of copper, ( for the daily dose ) should I not take this supplement since it has these extra supps init?

I guess in short.. Did I buy the wrong stuff

I truly am not sure but I bet you did fine. I know you should take cal with mag to help with absorption though.

That was probably one of my posts. I am actually taking a special form of oxygenated Magnesium, for a specific reason. However, one of the "side effects" of magnesium is that it should keep my bp low. I don't actually have a bp problem, but bc of all the mag, I figured I shouldn't develop one this pregnancy either. At my last check my bp was 100/68 which is lower than my pre-preg bp (120/75). So that does seem to be a fringe benefit.

Mag is very commonly a treatment for bp - if you were to be admitted to the hospital pregnant with high BP they would most like start an IV of Sodium Mag. One of the things I often recommend to my clients with bp issues is to relax in a nice warm tub with some Epsom Salts (which are also a form of Mag).

I have never seen what I take available in stores, unfortunately - it would make my life SOO much easier if it did. I was actually at Vitamin Shoppe yesterday and looked again and they still didn't have it.

But the supplement you bought sounds fine. Those are all minerals your body needs anyway, so it certainly shouldn't hurt you.

I am curious about Magnesium as well. I wish there were a big thread on how to do it right.

I just started taking a 250mg supplement of mag with a 600mg calcium supplement once a day and I dont know if that is enough to affect my high but stable BP or if it will hurt the baby or what.

I cant ask my doc because they frown on anything that is not advised through them, but yet they wont talk to me about anything, ugh. :

Not to mention that doctors don't have a clue about vitamins anyway...that's probably why they won't talk to you about other stuff as well.

Oh sorry, didn't mean to get off onto a doctor rant!

I just bought some liquid cal/mag last week from Amazon. It's raspberry-flavored and has 600mg calcium & 300mg magnesium per tablespoon. I wouldn't worry about the presence of other trace minerals in your vitamins - they should all work together cohesively, and your body will just get rid of what it doesn't need anyway.

zinc is especially good for a strong membrane... along with extra vitamin C.

a strong membrane can help protect against cord prolapse.

I was reading in my pregnancy weekly book, and it recommended 320 mgs daily for Mag, and 1200 mgs of Calcium in the thrid trimester.

I also take 2000mgs of VitC daily
Omega3
prenatal

Thanks Yonit so much for your reply.. I LOVE reading what you have too say. I learn so much!
