I hate Target

Thread Starter
I mean, I love Target, but I really actually HATE TARGET!!!!!!

I hate the way I feel after walking in there. I hate the covetous feeling, the lusty feeling for material possessions, the feeling of desire, the feeling of greed, of inferiority, of panic, of gotta-buy-the-entire-store NOW!! :

I'll be the first to admit it. America: your awful, shiny, flashy advertising tricks work on me.

I have to keep fighting the good fight though. Thank goodness for returns.

I know what you mean . . .

Thank goodness for returns is right! I've returned SO much stuff to Target lately!

Ha!
Step away from the bullseye!

That One Spot is the worst! And their clearance clothing... I go in for some generic baby wash and diaper creme, and I am tempted by everything else.

My only solution is to just stay away as much as possible!

I went in looking for cheap cotton tights for my girls, and came out feeling like crap because I couldn't afford the $25 for the beautiful wreath made out of jingle bells. I love jingle bells, I've always wanted a wreath made out of them, and on top of everything else, the cut outs in the bottoms of the bells were SNOWFLAKES instead of x-es- and I LOVE snowflakes.

This is why I don't shop- period. I give my DH a list, and send him. Then I don't feel so crappy about all of the things I'd love to have, and can't afford.

LOL I solved my impulse-shopping-at-Target problem: I bought a safe from Big Lots, locked the money up in it, and set aside only what I needed to buy the neccessary items from Target. I could then go home after I saw everything I wanted and decide whether or not to spend the money, instead of blowing it on impulse buys! (I'm a total impulse shopper)

That's why I'm GLAD we live an hour from the nearest Target!

19 days and that wreath will be 50% off....hang in there....it would be worth the 12.99 if its something you really love.

WOW I could have written your post, OP! It's so good to know I'm not alone

I boycott WalMart for two reasons.
1. Because I disagree with their business.
2. Because I always bought way more than I went in for.

I need to avoid Target as well.

Gack. I have a planned trip to Target today. I know just what you're talking about, Bex. The last time I was in one, I found myself cruising the aisles, actively looking for something to buy. I could hear this voice in my head saying, "how about this? how about that?." It was actually kind of creepy because I'm not by nature a shopper (maybe no one is, but I really honestly don't like to shop) and yet I was feeling this very explicit lure.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of stylish cooking gadgets and spiffy office supplies, I will fear no splurges because I'll be thinking about this thread.

I hope.

Ack! Me, too. I've gotten good lately, and only go when I need to go (we buy Sweat scoop cat litter there cheaper than any other place around). I go straight to the cat litter, and straight out again.

However, last weekend I went in to buy cat litter and gifts for a student of my DH's and her new baby. DD and I spent way too much money, and she was definitely caught up in the craze. I'm much happier just buying the cat litter, though. I feel better about myself afterwards.

I LOVE Target ...but im not an impulse buyer...I take my list and brave the store.

Has anyone else experienced this overwhelming ~i forgot why i came here and am now mesmerized by everything~ syndrome when they go to Target? I swear it's some sort of subliminal message in their store or something.....I always walk in and just instantly forget why i'm there and start looking at all the clearance deals

Great tactic.

I always spend way more than I plan to there, but sometimes I get a great feeling knowing that the store is full of cute, reasonably priced stuff and it's there for me whenever I need it--I don't need to buy it all right now.

Rarely do I regret not buying something. The next time I go in I'm usually hypnotized by some other bright, shiny, trinket. :, like a crow, and forget what it was that I was lusting after last time.

HOWEVER, I did see the navy blue patent pleather rafe hobo bag and could not stop thinking about it. After three days I went and got it and have not regretted it (It was $50--more than I usually pay for purses ) Truthfully, I like it a lot and I like that people notice and respond to it, but I'm not "mad" for it anymore.....oh well.

I think you should buy this. I can see you unwrapping it every year during the holiday season and getting a lot of pleasure out of it. See if someone you love will get if for you as a gift. I'm going to send a lot of good thoughts to you--I want you to get that wreath dog gonnit!

I have a jingle bell wreath I got a number of years ago and i still adore it

Hmm I am going to go unpack that and hang it up

I always bring a list with me so I don't forget what I'm there for.

The problem is I always have to check out the clearance racks - women's clothes, undergarments, health and beauty, food, luggage, bedding, stationary, appliances... You get the idea! The baby section is usually pretty picked over, but sometimes I find some good deals. I am a sucker for a bargain, and I've found some pretty good ones in the clearance sections. Mind you, rarely was it something I needed.

And January is the time for clearance at Target. Boy, I hope I get a gift certificate for Christmas. :

I don't even have a Target but IKWYM

I've seen the ads.

I'm glad I don't have one in my area because I know I would want ALL of it

They will be building one soon and I have mixed feelings. OTOH more shopping options will be nice. OTOH I'll see all the stuff and I'll want it.

If you have a Joanns near by, they have bell wreaths for 50% off. I hate going to Target just as much as Walmart, but for totally different reasons. Target is so seductive with their "affordable" nice things. But all those things add up.

Well, its just Target.

Neiman Marcus is a different story! :
