This was ME yesterday! I went in JUST to look for shoes for DS, and suddenly I was wandering the aisles trying to figure out what I was doing there! I just KNEW I was forgetting something, when in reality ALL I went in for was the darn shoes! (Which I did look at, but didn't buy after all.)

We do this: Go in for three things. All totaling $15.00 but will walk out spending $80.00! : Luckily, it's not on credit. But still, something about that store......

Here is my recipe for not spending to much at Target ( I was just there today and it worked great)
1. Take a active 2 year old with you
2. Mistakenly think that if you don't make her ride in the cart she'll walk calmly next to you the whole time.
3. Be 6 months pregnant

Within the first 10 minutes 2 year old will have run away 20 times, pulled 10 toys off the shelf, been put in the cart and buckled in 3 times screamed bloody murder and climbed back out 3 times and made about 100 shoppers think, "what a bad mom." Any desire you had to wonder the isles will be gone. You will practicle running down the isles trying to get the few items you came for and out the door before someone (most likely you) starts to cry again.

I love Target, but I don't need to go there very often. The last time I was there I bought toothpaste, some handtowels and a new shower curtain. Its so easy to drop money in that place.

I went on Saturday and chanted to myself (literally!) "Stick to the list, stick to the list, stick to the list". My 4.5 y/o ds started saying it with me. We looked like loons, but it worked!

And, I totally kid you not, but as we were getting the cart, 2 college aged girls walked past and one said to the other, "Why are we here again?" and the second girl said, "Um, I don't remember." And then they were walking off and she said, "Oh yeah, we have to get blah blah blah...". I wanted to laugh so badly!!

I know what you mean, target is my achilles heel as well. I think part of the target problem is that its in my price range. I am not tempted in a macy's or nordstrom or neiman marcus - everything is soo expensive I wouldn't think of buying it even if I loved it, I actually had $100 gift card for Nordstrom I couldn't spend because even with the gift card I felt everything was too expensive (In the end I bought a dress for my daughter since I couldn't spend that much on myself somehow)

but target, things are the right price to tempt me and it has so many gosh darn useful items!

Yes, but in Twin Cities speak. Which on is your Target (i.e. the one you go to most where you know where everything is)?

I have stopped shopping walmart and target is 45minutes from my house, so I don't get trapped there to often. I love target!!! I could spend way too much money!

I hate Target because of a very bad experience trying to return something there because they overcharged us for something that was in THEIR ad and then argued that it wasn't the same item - and we brought the ad with us to show them! I don't buy anything there because -eep- I might need to return it.
I feel quite immune to all the "impulse buy it now" feelings you describe. I guess working at WalMart for seveal years kindof builds up your immunity to those things. It's just freight, "stuff" ... I tend to forget that it's even a store sometimes....

Targets return policy stinks but I must say when we returned a DVD player there yesterday they first said exchange for like item only then she changed her mind and gave us our $$ back

Now lets hope the DVD player we got there yesterday will work for more than one day :

And their staff is less than helpful, that is if you can find anybody to ask that actually knows something :

We call Neiman Marcus- "Needless Markup"

I avoid Target as much as possible. I send dh etc. But, since we cloth diaper, I dont need to run in there as much so I dont drop money on things like that extra dvd, the wreath, candy etc. But I can see how it can entice! I do not shop at Walmart at all.

I love Target, their clearance sections rock! I know my limits when it comes to money so that may help.

I'll be the first to admit it. America: your awful, shiny, flashy advertising tricks work on me.

I have to keep fighting the good fight though. Thank goodness for returns.

I can't tell you how many times I've walked out of there and felt the same way! And, yes, it's really, ridiculously easy to return stuff there- thank goodness!

ETA: It seems that some mamas have had a hard time returning stuff, but I never have and they've even taken stuff back without a receipt- they just look it up on my debit card!

Ugh, don't even say target! It's bad enough there is alrady a new walmart opening up on this Island, but I heard Target is coming too. Its only the mainlanders that moved here that really want a target, local people just want it nice and beautiful and quiet!
The sad thing is that once is there, it might only take me a few years and I might get weak and buy something there...:

I adore Target too. Not proud of it, but it's true.

One of my fav things about it is the INCREDIBLE deep discounts they have on holiday stuff. Each holiday I go to the store after the big day and get tons of stuff dirt cheap. My Target does 75% off all holiday stuff for about three days and then 90% off everything after that! I get as excited about this as I do for the actual holiday.

I say wait until the 26th and then buy the wreath. No guilt, and it will be like a present to yourself next year when you get it out.
