How about "Tuesday's with Morrie?" The true story of a man's battle with an incurable disease that, though it ends sadly with his death, chronicles the man's wonderful love of life and people as well as his constant optimism and appreciation for what he has.

Have you seen Emmanual's Book?

If you're looking for a novel, what about The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho? It's a quick read and well worth it.

It's an oldie but a goodie "Siddhartha" by Herman Hesse. Totally changed my life for the better!

I've read "Tuesdays with Morrie" and "The Alchemist"!
Oh, I do remember.... how I read "Tuesdays" through the nite, and sobbing in the early morning as dawn broke!!

The other books I have not read, and will check them out.

If there are others, I would love to know! Hopefully, I will be having more time down the next months to be reading.

Thanks!!

Ok, you've probably already read this one too, but I had to add Mutant Message Down Under. It really made a difference in my life. What a message it was.

Expecting Adam: A True Story of Birth, Rebirth, and Everyday Magic by Martha Beck.

This is an amazing autobirographical book about an academic couple whose lives completely change because of their son with Down's syndrome. It is a beautiful book, and I don't know how anyone can read it without crying (in a good way).

Thanks, Lisa! I have NOT read Mutant Message Down Under. It seems like an unusual title to me, I will check that out- do you remember the author?

Actually, I used to really like "Jonathan Livingston The Seagull" too, it was also very inspirational. There was a time when I bought copies of "The Little Prince" and "Jonathan Livingston" and gave them out to frens!! Often these days, as a parent, I always wonder what the Little Prince would think of me as a parent, and sometimes I tell dh, "You are that awful adult mentioned in the Little Prince! All you care abt are numbers!!!"

Books, books, books.....

Marlo Morgan wrote Mutant Message Down Under. I really liked Jonathan Livingston Seagull too. I read it in 5th grade and it changed my life. Can you believe I have never read The Little Prince? I can recommend Till We have Faces by C.S. Lewis. I love surprise endings. Also Jitterbug Perfume by Tom Robbins is a modern classic.
