Just witnessed my first birth....ideas for a Thank You gift??

Hi,
I would like to become a doula someday. So a friend of mine, but more of an aquaintance really, allowed me the honour of attending her birth, just to get a feel for it. It was this morning, and it went beautifully (natural birth at a birthing center).

Anyway, I dont know how to begin to thank her for letting me be there, but I thought at the very least I should get her something. Ive had two babies myself but somehow Im at a loss of ideas of what she might need or enjoy for the first few days post-partum. I cant really make food, I just dont have much time (a sick baby, a term paper to write, and an exam to study for) but I could buy her something.

Thanks in advance for any ideas...

Maybe send her flowers?

Or, a gift certificate for some take out?

How about a Mommy Care Package. Babies get lots of cute stuff usually. How about pampering Mom? Maybe a basket with some tea or cocoa, a couple of magazine or books, an indulgent treat (does she like chocolate?), and some bath salts (for soaking tired feet).

My sister knows the woman who makes these blankets, and there is free shipping until Christmas. http://www.gracefulkate.com/ Locally made, and 10% donated to the Half the Sky Foundation.

Thanks for the suggestions! I do want to pamper mom rather than baby. I like the idea of making a little basket of various things. Thanks!

Bring a healthy cooked meal and do the dishes! And don't stay too long, mom might feel like she has to "host" or look more chipper than she may feel.

If you don't know how to cook maybe you could have food delivered from her favorite resteraunt. If you live in a big city anyway, where I live the only food that can be delivered is pizza. The friend who attended my dd's birth arranged for other friends & family to bring us food for the first week after her birth. That was SO nice. I had no idea how exhausted and hungry I would be. It was really nice to not have to worry about cooking anything.
