four days of prodromal labor - Page 2

Concerning Smallpox. Luckilly, I've had them when I was little. I went to check my IgG, just in case and they are present in a quite high numbers. So there's no need to worry for me or the new baby getting sick (she's protected through my antibodies).

Just imagine what your mother would think then!!!!

I've taken a few tabs orally, I think a total of three over the last week. I am thinking about doing one at night vaginally starting Wed, when I will be 38 weeks by dates (almost 40 by u/s). I have an appointment on Thursday, and they said they will strip my membranes if I want. I'm not sure I'll be able to resist saying yes, though logic tells me to at least hold out another week. : Of course, do logic and late pregnancy really go together? I think not...

Minka, glad to hear the smallpox is not reason for concern for you or the babe.

.... smallpox or chicken pox....?

Concerning prodromal labor, MotherWhimsey, I am so feeling your pain right about now. I've had contractions off and on for about two weeks now, but the past few days have been pure hell. I've had irregular contractions that then become regular (7-8 minutes apart) for a couple of hours before going back to being irregular. My entire midsection feels like it's caught in a vice grip and I'm certainly not sleeping well as a result of all of this. I'm 4 cm dilated and around 80% effaced as of last Wednesday. This baby has to come out eventually, right? I'm getting so frustrated, exhausted, and discouraged. I'm starting to wonder if I'll have any energy left by the time real labor actually starts. Just wanted to commiserate.

By the way, I'm sorry you felt so sick afterward, but I laughed my head off at your RRL tea story!! It sounds like something I'd do.

This thread has me

Hey, about the smallpox...I reallllly thought my breastmilk and whatever would protect my newborn from getting sick...DS2 got roseola from DS1 when he was a week and a half old Thought DS1 was over it when he came home from my mom's and figured the baby would be okay anyways. Fever, tachychardia and a 5 day hospital stay wiser, and I will NOT have a sick toddler around my new baby again The Drs thought it was meningitis and gave him a spinal tap and all kinds of crazy tests, it was horrible, horrible, horrible.
So PLEASE be careful! I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

My prodromal labor is just stupid. Every night I get these unbelievable gas pains and cramps that feel *just* like labor. Some of them even pop internally which feels like it could be my water breaking....

....then....

I realize I just really have to, er, break some wind. It's really lovely. Very attractive.

MamaJava, thanks for the tip. If by any chance I go in labor while my DD is still infectious, I'll stay in the hospital till she' s okay. Just in case.

As for the name of the sickness, I'm not american and I don't know exactly if it's called Smallpox or Chickenpox... It's a disease, caused by Varicella-Zoster virus, a common childhood disease, that usually goes by easilly, but with us, it was unfortunatelly not the case.

Anyway, I'm having a prenatal apointment today, we'll see how it goes...

Yeah, it's chicken pox. It can certainly be absolutely miserable. I'm sorry you're dealing with it now of all times.

I'm getting that too. It sure makes it harder to convince a man to help out with prostaglandins, doesn't it??? :

MW... So sorry you are feeling so yuck and so sorry about the pee and puke! But, but, but... I mean, the prodromal labor IS doing something if you're cervix is softening and effacing and opening a little, right???? <--- the optimist in me.

And I hope she gets relief soon.

I guess it's chickenpox . My DD is doing much better, but now my DH got sick with sore thtoath and very, very high fever. I guess "the hospital" is not over yet... I just said today, that if I go in labor soon, I'm staying in the hospital by the rules (which is 3 days here) in order to get some sleep . Otherwise I was planning to leave the hospital a few hours after labour.

Awww, minka Yep, that might not be such a bad idea in this case. Mama's gotta have rest!

prettypixels, luckily my dh is fairly open minded about such things he's doing okay with it

Ach, I had spotting two nights ago and really thought it was bloody show. I've never had that before late labor, so I wasn't sure...apparently it was nuthin.

Walk walk, contract contract...my nesting urge is back (somewhat)...is there some predictable pattern to that?

I'm just going with the EPO at this point. But it's hard to reach all the way up there!! Does it have to sit right on your cervix? I've been putting in a few caps as far as I can reach and then lying with my butt elevated : to give it some gravity. I'm SO elegant, dontcha think?!
Really tho - is that worth it, or not?

Well I took my slick self to the hospital last night (well, DH drove) because I was having so many contractions and felt "sure" this was it. Well....it WASN'T! This is my 4th kid and I have never been sent home before, so I feel like a failure! Not only that - they checked me and said I am 2 cm! At my visit Friday they told me I was 3 cm! I know it isn't an exact science, but come on!!! Reverse progress??

So today I am exhausted and MAD! I went for a walk and just swallowed some EPO down with my RRL and I inserted 2 and am laying down!!! So there, you L&D nurses who said I went backwards instead of forwards!

To top it off, my toddler has come down with a cold and is waking at night again...I slept an hour before the hospital, an hour after, then 2 hours after he woke me up. This is the second night of 4 hours of sleep...

I think I am going to need a mental health professional soon if this baby isn't born... :

On the bright side, my MIL cleaned and mopped my kitchen while I was at the hospital, so it wasn't a total waste...trying to convince DH that I shouldn't use the kitchen so as to keep it clean, that is my next mission!

Awww...tracey, I took a trip to the hospital with ds2 when it was just prodromal labor. i felt like such a dummy! they offered to keep me and induce me in the AM but i took my sad self home. the good news? he was born 4 days later.

my boys have colds too.

i thought i would like having a winter baby...starting to reconsider that... all the illness in the air!!

Mine too, actually... it's *me* that gets all self-conscious.

He was so cute yesterday, I noticed all this new hair on my belly. It's really not a big deal, for me at least it's coming in very fine and blonde so it's not scary looking or anything. But I showed him and he said "Oh cool! It's keeping the baby warm!" He is too much

My MW recommended 1000 MG of EPO 3 x/day...orally, though. I have no idea what the effectiveness is for oral vs. vaginal use! I was thinking if I start to run over I might try the vaginal use in addition to the oral EPO I'm taking now...
I've been taking 1000 mg orally 2x for weeks now, I've been upping it to 2000mg twice a day and 2000mg vaginally at night last night, and prob tonight.

Dontcha love a hubby that doesn't mind all the pregnancy symptoms...hairy bellies included? Mine loves me preggo. Thinks I look gorgeous. :

Christina, thanks for the encouragement.

I am having some cramping after all of my wanna-be labor inducement techniques today...of course, I have BEEN having that!!
