What's your 13 month old doing?

Hello!

Just interested in what others with darlings around or near the 13 month mark are up to?..

seems our life the past month or so has become *really* trying...lots of whining, pinching crying, very low threshold for frustration, hitting head with hands, naps are few and far between, wanting to nurse constantly , and so on. I do believe teething is part of the reason, but this time it seems so prolonged.

I am wondering if we are on a normal course; incidentally, dd is very spirited and physically active (since in utero) and getting her to sleep has always been a struggle.

Well, since today is their 13 month birthday, I suppose I should answer!

Right now is very intense. They are glorious and amazing. They're walking everywhere and adding words like crazy. They're expressing opinions and desires, answering yes/no questions about what they want, and smiling and laughing and flirting and being so much fun.

They also just went through a big sleep disruption right before they switched from crawling to walking as primary transportation mode. They are both major biters and have been for a while. They are biting each other somewhat less (though I'm scared to type that "out loud") and have been biting the moms more. DP and I both are covered with bruises all over our arms. We show people and they're horrified (and probably chalk it up to the EBF, co-sleeping, etc., sigh). There's definitely more frustration. It's nice to be able to ask them what they want, but there are definitely times when they have opinions about what we're going to do when it isn't what we need to do. Molars are almost certainly in the mix now too.

Is your babe working on a new skill? All last week bedtime took THREE hours (yes, THREE HOURS), and I just kept telling myself THIS TOO SHALL PASS. And it did. They're snoozing in the bed with my partner right now, which is where I'm going since someone just woke up...

Hugs,

Cate

running more then walking, walking more then being still. More aware of his surroundings. Like the cat is a cat and will response to how my son acts to them. Loves to be doing stuff. Shares his food or toys. Learning like crazy.
Its so cool. I loved having a new born baby and I love how he is growing and changing.

Dd is 14 1/2 months. She is walking around, getting into anything she can find! The only word she says is THAAAAT? She points to different objects as she says it. She is really into abusing our dogs right now and she doesn't yet understand "gentle". We're really having a tough time with this one, if anyone has any advice I'd love to hear it!

Me too! Sometimes dh and I are wondering if she should be saying more words. I worry about it for a few minutes and then think about how smart and friendly she is. Then I realize that she's just fine and she will say more when she's ready... on her own time!

Ditto to all of the above. Ethan is running and walking everywhere ALL the time. He bit the babysitter on the butt last week and then laughed. (So he has my sense of humor!) He's talking up a storm. He loves to say this-and that. Last week he shocked my mom by saying "penis down!" Fun, fun,-potty humor at my house! I am so happy that he is doing all the "normal" stuff and then again I sometimes miss putting him down and still finding him there!

hi,

my dd is nearly 14 mos (3/8/02), she just started walking a couple of weeks ago.... she says a few things, her newest is 'uh' for up (can mean up or down), 'mom' patting me on the leg to get my attention, and just started calling my breasts 'baba'... its so cute! i think she got that from my 2 yr old dd who still nurses and calls them 'bobbies'

she understands some things, like put this up etc. sometimes i worry about her development though. she'll use a word for like day and then seemingly forget it! oh well!

this is a great age!

DD is 12 and a half mos and I call this chapter of our lives "I can't stop my legs." She is even running in her sleep and I have the bruises to prove it. Last night she was saying "dah, dah" (dance, dance) in her sleep. She is very funny but I wish she would be a little more still at night. Yawn!

She told her first joke the other morning- she put her banana on her head and said "hat". She was so pleased that her joke made me laugh!

She is obsessed with keys and even reaches for strangers' keys. She loves to take my keys and try to "open" things with them.

She loves animals, but everything with fur is a kitty (chhheee) and says "mau". Also because we have asked her what does the kitty say so many times, she will answer almost all questions with "mau." "Gina, what's in your mouth?" "Mau!"

She's great!
