fabric for children's sleepwear

I am new to this sewing thing, and wanted to make my son some pj's for a Christmas present. I bought the pattern at JoAnne Fabrics, and then went to pick out the material. However, none of the fabric they carry meets flammability standards for children's sleepwear. Where else can I get this, or is it not typically sold and people just use the regular fabric? Like I said, I don't really ever sew, but would like to start and have made my son's Halloween costumes but not much else, so I don't even know all the jargon and stuff - the pattern seemed way more complicated than I realized, even though it was labeled Very Easy! Thanks for any input!

Here is a prior discussion about PJ fabric

I use flannel found at Joanns, WM, Hancocks.

Hope this helps!

Many of the sleepwear fabrics found in fabric stores have flame retardant in them because they are made from polyester, polyester w/o flame retardant will melt to the skin if it catches on fire. However, flame retardants are toxic (they are in just about everything from carpet to furniture) but not something you want you child lying and breathing in all night long. Wool is a natural flame retardant so this is an excellent choice when choosing fabrics for sleepwear, or just a %100 cotton like flannel just as long as it doesn't have polyester in it so it won't melt.
