fabric suggestion for apron?

HI,
What kind of fabric is good for strong but lightweight apron? I would like to make a traditional style one with multiple pockets and I think cotton Calico type would be too thin. What do you suggest? Thanks...

I am making one with cotton canvas.

I made one out of a light corduroy. I've had it for over 10 years and its still in good shape, though I don't use it everyday.

I like cotton home dec kind of fabrics. They have some stiffness but not too much. Or use two layers of regular cotton wovens.

I think the home deocor fabrics work well too.
