Natural Dyeing

I'm looking into dyeing some play silks for dd and would like to get some info. We dyed some eggs for Easter using Tumeric, red cabbage,... Someone said you can use the same solution to dye silks. Is that true? Would the colors wash out from the silks? Any help would be appreciated.

You can use the same dyes for silks, but you need to use something to set the color.
Some say vinegar works, but I've not tried it on silk.
