mw appt yesterday

this is pasted in from my blog. J is my dh btw. i'm so irritated at the whole situation and am getting more and more discouraged with living here in the midwest: why doesn't anyone here understand that birth is a totally natural thing? even the mw seems to be having a problem with that lately: (and, fwiw, she's the only mw in this area so it's either her or our crappy hospital here in town) (and Chili isn't the babe's name. dh just refers to him as Chilibean since we won't pick a name until after he is born)

...had a very annoying mw appt. yesterday. we got on the topic of me being able to leave the hospital after the birth, like originally agreed upon when we started out seeing her and she has now become very flaky on the subject. basically, trying to guilt me into staying the full suggested amount of time by telling me this horror story about how she had a mom leave the hospital right away and the baby ended up having some rare major heart defect and almost die. great. thanks for the comfort. plus, if we leave early, we have to make sure the baby either sees the ped in town or we go back to the mw (an hour away) the next day so that the baby can be checked! the mw doesn't do home visits anymore because her insurance stopped covering them (how convenient) which is also a change from when we originally started seeing her. i was so pissed by the time i left. Hy-Vee had Oreos for only $1.97 though and despite being poor, i bought some anyway and despite how terrible they are for you they tasted damn good. J is super pissed over the whole matter. i'm glad he wasn't there though because he would have blown up at her. he said he's going to call her when he's not so mad so we'll see how that goes. oh, and she's also still pushing to have another u/s at 35 weeks to make sure Chili is head down. i have said time and time again that 35 weeks won't determine anything since Spud spun and twirled up until 38wks and was actually transverse for a time between 35 and 37. small babies and my tall body type equals lots of space to spin. my OB wasn't concerned about it so i'm not sure why it's such a big deal now. it should be fun when we tell her we're refusing that u/s since our insurance won't cover another one and we can't afford to pay for something unnecessary. ugh. you know if annoying when even J suggested that if he weren't so afraid/queezy about blood we should just have a natural unassisted birth at home. unfortunately, he has the tendency to pass out at the sight of blood so if i needed his assistance he would be pretty useless.

Holy crap. You ain't kidding. That rates as one of the most pessimistic M/W I've ever heard.

So let me get this straight. Somehow some way all over the world women are helping other women birth without U/S and she wants one done at 35 weeks no less? Not, say, oh I don't know, never? Or if she's weak, say, 40 weeks?
I have some pretty strong things to say against her but a) MDC will bust me and b) I respect your predicament and don;t want you to feel worse.

You know, I would really consider getting some feedback from the Birth Professional forum here. Ask what your expectations should be. I just can;t believe there's noone else out there who's available. M/W birth breech all the time. (well, breech happens only 5% of the time but) They just deal with it. You know, like how we used to before 19)(*&%^70??????? Grrrrr.

So sorry honey. This must suck for you all.
