Allergy questions

1) DS has his first app't with an allergist next week, as he has a confirmed milk allergy and a suspected strawberry allergy. What can we expect at the appointment?

2) We think DS has a strawberry allergy (broke out in hives when he ate some strawberry gerber puffs), are the protein in strawberrys passed through breastmilk? Do I need to avoid strawberry flavorings and strawberries?

The allergist may or may not do allergy testing. Allergy testing is very inaccurate in babies/toddlers. But s/he might do it anyway. If you're lucky, the testing will be accurate. If not, like the majority of us, it won't be and the best way to figure out food allergies is to eliminate and trial. Strawberry puffs also have wheat, so it may be wheat that is the problem. I don't know why Gerber makes those. I know they say on the package that they're for kids OVER 1 year, but no one listens to that. Kids under 1 year of age are not supposed to have wheat. If it is strawberry, yes, you should avoid any foods your dc is allergic to while bf. Most kids outgrow most allergies by 1-2 years of age, though.
