Starship Troopers - The BOOK

So I just finished the book. I was interested in what they had done to it for the movie....
And boy, not sure where the movie came form, has very little to do with the book.

I just wanted to get other people's opinions on the book. I found it interesting...and of course topical.

What did you think?

It's a great book. Dumb movie.

I had to go back and read the book after seeing the movie to remind myself that it was a good book.

It's one of my favourite from Heinlein.

But in that line nothing's better than the Ender's Game series by Orson Scott Card.

papachee, for certain, absolutely agree about "Ender's Game." Read them years&years ago, in the Before Children times ...

My brother lent me a "post-trilogy" book ... are there more? It's been sitting here for a year, and I have yet to read it. Wish I could reread the first three before I get to this one.

Never read "Starship Troopers." Loved Heinlein, though, so don't know how I managed that. Will have to read it ... whenever it is I get to read something again ...

Not a huge fan of Heinlen but I did like starship troopers and was really thrown off by the movie..: I guess someone just pulled it out of their butt or something...

There are many books in the Ender's Game series. ...

Ender's Game,
Speaker for the Dead,
Xenocide,
Children of the Mind
Ender's Shadow
Shadow of the Hegemon
Shadow Puppets

The last three are sort of prequels but still great.

That book turned me into a reluctant Heinlein fan. He certainly has some very strong ideas about crime and punishment, rights vs responsibilities, duty, honor etc... the movie was... well, simply gawdawful! Poor RH must have been spinning in his grave! My husband was deeply saddened that they spent all the special effects money on aliens and had the troopers running around alien worlds in jeans and T shirts (perfect air blend! how lucky is THAT?) rather than showing the cool jumpsuits so beautifully described in the books.

I was interested to note that it is on the suggested reading list for the USMC.

Thanks for the list ... I read through "Xenocide" (the original three) & my brother lent me (though I've yet to read) "Children ..."

Kinda OT, but what is it about Heinlein books and buxom babes on the cover? Honestly, that put me off to him, even though his content isn't "that way," IYKWIM. Is it the publisher that does that? And why?

I mean, sex to sell scifi is kind of weird. Hard to picture. Though I did once have a really silly mental gyration about Rama (of the "Rendevous With ...") meeting "Ringworld" ... ohnevermind.

:LOL :LOL
