Top 100 Names in 2006 by Baby Center

This is totally taken from the BabyCenter website about names...My girl name will be totally out since it is #3 on the list: I am surprised about some of the names on the list though.

In 2006, Emma and Aiden were still holding court, although in 2005 parents preferred Aiden spelled with -an. Meanwhile, seven newcomers entered the Top 100. For girls, Aubrey, Juliana, Maggie, and the intriguing Nevaeh — heaven spelled backward — made the list; for boys, Brody, Miles, and Peyton rose into view.

What's on the way out? Bailey and Makayla are falling fast for girls, and for boys, Julian plummeted 17 spots to #95, so it may heading for the exit. Check out more 2006 trends in baby names!

The BabyCenter Baby Names List is the largest private list available in the United States. The 2006 list reflects name data from more than 370,000 BabyCenter members.

Don't worry about the list. Usually they don't actually mean a whole lot. I always look at the Social Security Administration list to find out the true numbers. Unfortunatly, that one won't come out until May.

Also, remember that popularity varies. A name might be number 1 in California and not even on the list in Nebraska.

Thanks for the list! But why let a name's popularity affect you? I think Ava is a GORGEOUS name!!! Just because it is #3 does not necessarily mean that she will have 10 classmates with the same name, kwim?

Thanks, I do too and to be honest I don't know one little girl named Lily! I named my dd Emily the year it hit #1 (not knowing beforehand) and we only know one other Emily so I don't take too much stock in those lists. This one is harder for me to name possible because I know it's the last time I'll ever get to pick something so special as somebody's name.

I'm not in this ddc...just spying on you all lol.

My girls name I have picked out is Lily... it has been my favorite name for a long time now and I'm a little bummed its so common now...everyone is naming their dd's Lily especially on the forums I hang out on.

2 of my kids names have necome very popular after we have named them...I still like their names I just wish they werent sooo common around here.

I'm going to look at other names now but if they dont have the "I love it!" like I feel with "Lilly" then we'll stick with Lily. It's more important for me to really love the name than how popular it is...although having a great name thats not too common would be the best of both worlds!

When we named DD Sofia, i hardly ever heard the name being said all that much...and now..wow its just crazy. Soooooo many Sophias-people mostly spell with -ph- though and we spelled with -f- it CAN be a little irritating but honestly DD is SUCH a Sofia, i just cannot at all picture her with any other name!
Oh and lots and lots of Isabellas now too. I used to love the name, but really wouldnt use it as a first name now, it got a little too much for me.

Still, to me the *most* important is that the name has that something special, that magical thing that makes you all warm and fuzzy inside when you imagine that *THAT* is what you are going to call your little one.

Aww both of my daughters names are on there! Olivia is number 8 and Audrey is number 59. I really tried to stay away from popular names but I just have always loved the name Olivia and I guess that is pretty popular right now!
my names arent on there (Lily is one of the middle names though- haha)

But man- when did Bryce get popular? I remember looking it up when I was preg and it was NOT top 100! I guess I started a trend haha.
I'm so pleased that my children's names are not on the list! I chose traditional, not trendy names.

Sorry, I don't post my kid's names or my name on the world wide web.

I was bored so I looked up Ava on the SSA site. In Texas, in 2005 it was number 20 with 818 girls named that. The year before it was number 52 with 502 girls named that. So while it's getting more popular, it's not shockingly. 818 kids in ALL of Texas isn't all that bad, ya know?

While my naming choices don't hit the 100 lists, as someone who was named one of the top 5 for her birth year, with a sister who was in the top 5 of her birth year, let me assure you that I saw no particular drawback to a popular name. Okay, people might be able to hazard a pretty good guess as to your age group before they meet you, but growing up I certainly didn't feel depressingly common or something. There weren't 20 girls in my year at school with the same name, only one or two, which was never bothersome. I feel like a good name is often a popular name. I'm more wary of a trendy name that may especially date my child as it spikes in popularity but then disappears than a traditional name which just happens to be experiencing a wave of popularity.

my girls names are not on the list but I still love Olivia!

Skylar and Lessley

My boys are but they have very traditional names.

Andrew and Aaron

Our names are family names and have special meaning for us.

My son's future name's not even in baby books - I've looked at every one I could find! I guess that's what happens when you name your child after characters in fantasy novels...

Only one of my kids' names are on the list. I'm okay with that.

Well I understand not wanting a popular name. You want your child to be unique. But they will be, and they ARE. If you really like a name, I say ignore the list
