Top 100 Names in 2006 by Baby Center - Page 2

roadfamily6 - - our son is named Andrew and Aaron is on our list for #2. Its funny, because I couldn't think of anyone his age that was named Andrew, and I have run into one or two since he was born, but it doesn't seem to be everywhere, yet its #18 or something on the list. My other boys' first name choice -- Brenden, is also on there, but oh well.

I really like Olivia, but it is really popular right now. But so is Ella, which is on my list, and Maggie (dh's mom is Margaret). BUt I"ve never run into one around here or in my long distance friends. But then my best friend and I, who live 1000's of miles apart and are both pregnant both independently thought Fiona was a good name.

It is funny how a name just seems to drop into the collective unconciousness for a while, though. I really liked the name Zoe, and then two of our friends who are also friends had girls within months of each other and both girls aRE Zoe. Same with Elijah -- I know three people who used Elijah within a year of each other, even though I hadn't heard of anyone using it for years. But I think as long as its a solid name that you like and that suits your child, it doesn't really matter. That's just the strange way things go.

DD's name is Ava, and I'm kinda freakin out. Before she was born, I NEVER heard of anyone naming their child Ava (ok, maybe reese witherspoon), but I always loved the name and thought it would be really different. And now it's trendy and might sound dated soon, kwim?

:

So I'm feeling sad and having some regrets, even though I still love the name. I can't talk to my husband about it - he gets mad that I'm even questioning this.

I know that in the big picture, this is just a detail, but it's her NAME after all!

If there are other Ava's in her classes, maybe she'll choose a great nickname, right?

I think Ava is still a classic, albiet it, currently popular name. Something like Mackenzie, or even Madison as it's not traditionally a girls' name, sound a lot more trendy to me.

Thanks, Winterbaby ~ that's a good point and makes me feel better!

I do LOVE the name Ava :

My mother thought she had the best Idea for a name! Olivia! she said she had never heard it before.. Um yeah Dh and I had a big argument about that name because he wanted to name DD#1 that because he likes Liv Tyler and wanted to call her Liv : and I told her about that She forgot lol and thought she was so smart with that name

Ahhh the name game is so much fun!

My daughters name is Emilie (Emily)... and I have NEVER met or heard of anyone named Emily (in person), in my entire life. Apparently, it was #1 for about 15 years too.

We're thinking of naming the new baby Magdalen (Maggie), if it's a girl.

(oops, i'm in the wrong due date club )

I love the name Ava, I dont know any one named that here. Maybe it is not popular here in the cold north.

OK the name we have chosen is Emma, which is number ONE. But, I don`t live in the States so I don`t care. Plus as others have mentioned it is a special name to us. DD#1 is Maya and we will use the same character for Ma (love).
Maya is love field
Emma is forever love
The field and forever characters make up the name of the place where DH and I met. So we are not changing.

What a wonderful history for your girls

i have to say, i am surprised the "brayden" is in the top 100 names... it's welsh or gaelic meaning "salmon." which has personal meaning for me, since i practice celtic paganism.... but ???? for others??? i was thinking how can i talk dh into this one after he vetoed "bohdi," but there it was on the top 100 list.
People like fish?? I think it probably has more to do with Brayden sharing the same sound as the very popular "Aidan" with a prefix attached.

Well, IMHO, picking a name just because it's popular is silly, but I wouldn't shun a name I really loved because it was popular either. Having said that, though, I was a bit dismayed when we started meeting all kinds of Sophia's just about DD's age.

My oldest's name (Margaret) never makes those lists, but my youngest (Eleanor) is starting to creep up there. We chose the names because they were meaningful to us, though, so I'm not going to worry about it.

We're still sooo undecided on names this time, esp. girl names , that I'm afraid this baby will be a month old before it has a name.

Thanks for the positive thoughts on our names.

My own name was never popular, at least the spelling wasn`t. I forgot to add another point for us was names that sounded good in English and Japanese.
My husband likes the boy`s name Yohei (sounds like Yo hey) my family was not thrilled and were glad we had a girl the first time, and prob. this time also.

Maya isn't on there, which makes me happy, but on the social security database it was in the 70's and I expect it to be on there, hopefully no higher, for this year too. I'm still going to use it as that's not too popular for me.

I love Magdalen! We were thinking of that as well. I think we're going with Mary Therese, though. Dh isn't thrilled with it but I love it. He's picked all the other kid's names. I'll throw this one at him after a long labor and another 10 lb baby

That is so true! I love Ava! And when I had my first, Brandon, it was like the number three name. I've met only one other Brandon and he's 10 years older than my Brandon. Hannah is also high on the list but we only know one other Hannah and she's 7 years younger than my Hannah.
