Can I do this? Re: Zoloft

I've been off meds for six months or more now but have been feeling a tremendous amount of stress lately. I also suffer OCD (since childhood) and anxiety as well.

I've been taking mangosteen juice and it seems to help some but not nearly what I had hoped. Today I took a 50mg of my zoloft. Could I take a low dose, like for just a week or two before my period? My dr (a woman) said she does this for pms.

I guess I should call her. Just wondering if anyone has taken them in this manner.

I had a difficult time coming off of Zoloft. I, personally, could not do that. It would wreak havoc on my body and my mind. Taking it for a few weeks before your period might help with PMS, but it isn't going to help with OCD. (I'm actually skeptical that it helps with PMS as much as people say because it can take some people that long to respond to the medication, some even longer.)

If it works for you and you don't have problems with withdrawal, I don't think it hurts to use Zoloft as though it was a PRN (as-needed medication). Anti-depressants aren't supposed to work that way, but sometimes they actually do. Prozac worked that way for me, providing immediate relief (within 24 hours) and no side effects from stopping it as suddenly.

I had a hard time coming off Zoloft too, I was taking 150mgs a day. Hm, I was a bit skeptical too about what my dr. said about the PMS. Usually it's best when the body is saturated with the medication. But, it still ups the serotonin every time right? so maybe it will help?

It did help with my OCD, which unfortunately affects me mostly in the middle of the NIGHT but, the side effects of headaches made me want to wean from it...

sigh..
