Making a nursing necklace?

Thread Starter
I tried searching for threads but it gave me every thread with "nursing" in it.

I have one of these that I bought from a WAHM. It is gorgeous and I love it. But it was $50 so it's going to be the only one I have for quite some time unless I win the lottery or make my own. I'm looking for something fun to do during the bad weather months so I thought I would give it a try.

I'm not an experienced beading person, but I do have an eye for color and design. What I need to know are technical specifics. What kind of things do I need to ask for at the bead shop to get started with this project?

A big center bead, non-toxic.
Tiger tail (coated cable)
Crimp beads and crimp tool
Clasps (magnetic might be good if you want quick-release)
Accent beads (seed beads)

and a beading board!

I've been thinking about making one with either an i-cord or leather. I have all the beading stuff, but my babe is such a yanker that I figured tigertail-type stuff would hurt.

Here's directions for the sliding knot for a plain donut-type necklace.

I made mine on a linen cord w/ one pendant that I made out of beads and wire. I like the magnetic clasps. With a fabric or leather cord, you could just tie the clasp on.
