Please, tasty drink ideas for cow milk allergic toddler??

Hi, all. My little ds (one year now) is extremely allergic to cow milk (he swelled up and turned pink all over after licking an ice cream cone). He nurses throughout the day and drinks a bit of juice.

I work outside the home 1, sometimes 2 days a week for 4-6 hours at a time. I gave up pumping a month ago because I didn't pump much (2 or 3 oz). I'm not very good with a pump. He often didn't drink the bottle anyway.

I'm trying to offer him some interesting, tasty drinks when I'm away. Any ideas for something more filling than juices? I don't care for the taste of straight soy milk, so I haven't tried that. Anyone make a concoction of soy, rice, or other milks? We can't do nuts because he tested positive for those and is supposed to stay away. We do drink a lot of coconut milk in foods or blended drinks.
Thanks for any suggestions.

My cow milk allergic 3 year old loves goat milk. Maybe you could try him on that.

How about chocolate soy or rice or coconut milk? There are a few syrups that are dairy free.

Or a fruit smoothie? I use bolthouse farms juice and some sorbet and ice.

Some kids that are allergic to cows milk are also allergic to goats milk.

Flavored water with fruit slices or water with frozen fruit to make it more fun might work as well.

We use rice, but I know Eden? brand has a soy/rice mix they sell. There's oat milk, or Vance's Dari free made form potatos. There's Very Vanilla Silk soy which is enhanced for children.

Make that MOST. 70%.

We do rice milk here, but really, my kids were/are happy w/ water. 4-6 hours once or twice a week isn't so long that you NEED a replacement for nursing. He should be fine w/ snacks/meals and water till you get back.

Snacks, meals, water sounds simple- that should work! If dh or grandma can get him to eat enough food maybe he won't need much to drink.

Our allergist told me 90% of children with IgE mediated cow milk allergy are also allergic to goat milk. The proteins are similar-I believe that goes for kiddos with immediate type hypersensitivity, which my ds has. It might not hold true for other types of intolerances???

Thanks for the ideas. I haven't tried that silk very vanilla, but have seen it in the stores.

We make fruit smoothies in the blender...put in whatever you want and blend for a long time to make it very smooth.
I mostly use:
1/2 an orange
2-4 strawberries
a few peach slices
1/2 soy yogurt
water or juice to thin it out.

Since he's nursing usually and it's such a short time he doesn't really need a milk substitute, just something to drink, right?

Another good one is strawberry soy yogurt and 1/2 banana plus some soy milk to thin it.
You can put in an ice cube or two if the ingredients aren't cold enough.

Thanks for the recipe. Sounds good.
I guess there is no real 'milk' substitute is there? I think he is not used to getting his main calories from the table at this point and gets a little hungry when I'm gone. If someone sits with him and feeds him he does like to eat.

DD3 drinks either water or plain rice milk. When she's really having a special day, she gets chocolate rice milk.

I like rice better than soy. It tastes better, and I am allergic to soy and mildly allergic to cows milk (but youngest DD is allergic, so it's completely out of my diet while nursing.) Also, I have read things that I am not too thrilled about with soy milk.

Ditto, here. I hesitate to use it as a beverage for me or ds. I use it in lattes and cooking/cereal.

So, I'll give the rice milk a try.
Thanks!

We do rice milk. They all taste a bit different, so we had to try quite a few before we settled on one that really satisfied. We LOVE Pacific Rice, plain or vanilla. YUM! Even my dh, who can drink cow's milk, came to prefer rice milk as long as it's pacific rice.

Coming from somebody who is a deathly allergic to dairy products growing up - I would not suggest this. Stick to juice and water. I grew up on that and I'm fine. (28 now!) but I would suggest to take your dc to the allergist to find out how sever the allergy is.

Vanilla Silk or Kirkland (Costco) soymilk is good.

Please do NOT give your 1yo. Silk Very Vanilla soymilk. It's got a nasty insane amount of sugar in it.

For that little amount of time, I would probably stick with watered juice or just plain water. I sent almond milk or soy milk w/ my DD at that age when I stopped pumping also. She was in care about 6 hrs 4 days/wk and 4 hrs a 5th.
