i went for my Medicaid recertification this morning. And she tells me the laws have changed.

it has to do with ID/citizenship etc....

for the kids they need more identification

They tell me I MUST have one of the following

-immunization records (hell no)
-school ID (we homeschool)
-hospital birth certificate (only have one of those, i have 4 kids)

and she tells me nothing else will be accepted. Their birth certificate isnt enough. their SS# isnt enough.

she says you will have to either get their shots or put them in school.
I told her would she put that in writing for my lawyer?
She said oh, i will talk to my supervisor and get back to you.

im fuming

The birth certificate must be from a hospital?

Good move.
If there is a new law (particularly if it's specific to Nebraska), you need to ask them for copy of it regardless.

I'm going to check out the Nebraska Medicaid site and see what I can find.

Go beat her #$@ Amanda!!
Ok, I'm done... I'm sorry!

I am so sorry you had to deal with that! I hope this gets straightened out. Good move with the lawyer card. Big hugs!

Um, she is absolutely WRONG>
the hospital BC is for "display/celebratory" puposes ONLY and is not at all a legal documnet in any way shape or form.
I'm thinking she actually got her training/information completely confused, and it is the hispital BC they CAN NOT legally accept, only the health dept one that will do.

what an idiot.

Glad you didn't slink off....i'd be putting in calls to her supervisoor and the state dept oif huan services or whatever it is called in your state.....I'd be making sure that mornon was "corrected"....

hospital BC meaning the little pretty one you get with footprints on it

So, I have a question, how do immunization records prove that you are a US citizen??? Do they ask for proof of citizenship when you take a kid in for shots?

so they want a shot record correct? one from the drs. with the little name/ DOB sticker on it?

I've used a blank one. it only has the name/ d.o.b. sticker from the hospital on it. But it is, by their defination exactly what they ask for.

It sounds to me like it's b.s.
I'd definitely talk to a supervisor.
I didn't even get a hospital birth certificate with my only hospital birth. And when i did vaccinate ... no, we were never asked for anything. Not a birth cert., nothing.....
She is giving you a hard time ....either to be a jerk or out of ignorance.

Passports?

I don't understand why you can't use a regular birth certificate?

Can you get those state issued i.d.'s for minors?

My husband once had a lady who told him that his passport wasn't good enough identification. :

She's wrong. Talk to her supervisor, and if that doesn't work, then talk to the person above that person.

Oh brother....what a load of crap.....

Of course, immunization records have nothing to do with citizenship. I don't know anything about the law re: medicaid but if they do indeed need you to prove citizenship, the state issued bc is all you need. If your child was born out of the US to US citizens, you would probably need a citizenship card which you would apply for through INS or whatever. I'm assuming that doesn't apply to you.

Are they just trying to say they need two "items", official or not that indicate that your child is who you say they are? If that's the case, you could always have your lawyer, pediatrician, chiropractor, etc. write a letter as a guarantor stating that he/she knows your children, has known them for x long, etc.

I really hate it when people in power (no matter how little that power is) try to use their position to try to force mainstream choices on people. Blech.

And on the namecalling, no matter how deserved.

I'm wondering if these Rules & Regulations apply:

http://www.hhs.state.ne.us/med/medrules.htm

Specifically, title 468 under eligibility rules... I see nothing about requiring school or vaccination records. On page 12, it says "School attendance is not an eligibility factor; however, a dependent child age 16 or older who is not a full-time student must participate in Employment First."

It talks about Aid to Dependent Families & Medical care, but not child specific. I don't know if the new child medical care program has their own regs, but I don't see any on the website.

Still looking for more info.

ETA: Here's the regs for the kids connection program specifically: http://www.hhs.state.ne.us/chs/chsrules.htm

I dont' know if I'll have time to go through.. Dh just called and said "lunch!" LOL
