Any Window Painters?

I have tried mixing dry tempera paints with dish soap, but can't seem to get the recipe just right. Does anyone have a good recipe that isn't too bubbly or thin? Is there a trick? A certain brand that works best? etc.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

I just use student or craft grade acrylics with gel medium for a good, thick consistency.

I don't like tempera, comes off too easily in the rain.

Are you painting outside or inside? Is this a decorative project or a kids' craft?

Well, I think most stores are done by painting the outside, because they have too much merchandise on the inside. I think I would like to do the outside. When I tried it before, I did the inside, and it beaded up, then it bubbled when I put more soap in it the next time. Then it was a total mess to clean up. I was thinking about painting our windows for the season, but also toying with the idea of doing storefronts in the future. I know there is good money in it. Do you do it for a living?

I used to assist/learn from a guy who did it professionally, but I never made a career out of it for myself. Again, acrylics work well, also exterior house paints actually work and DO NOT come off unless you wet them really well and then scrape. There are also paints and enamels specifically designed for window work.

I didn't realize there were paints made especially for it. I asked at Michael's and they didn't seem to know, but I am not entirely surprised. I hadn't thought about suing regular acrylics. I suppose you could think them down a bit with a medium so that they glide on the glass better. I am not sure I would use my Golden"s but I might try a couple snowflakes for fun.
