Hey, I wasn't trying to guilt anyone Gendenwitha. I simply grew up with messy, packratty folks. It was terrible to feel ashamed of my home and that I couldn't have anyone over because everyone's home was so much nicer than mine. I don't mean "nicer" in terms what we owned either.
For my own kids, I keep things neat and tidy. Not sparkly, not fancy and not "eat off the floor" clean, but nice. Able to invite anyone through the door at a moment's notice. Able to have playdates and friends over without any embarrassment or shame. It doesn't take all my time, the kids and dh help and we are happy.
