Bellybutton still trying to heal at 5 1/2 weeks!

My dd's cord fell off about 7 days after birth.
But now I noticed since about 5 days ago...there was some discharge from the bellybutton. And it looked clear. But on the onesies it stained like a brownish/yellow color. There is no odor. Her temp is normal. Its not red around the area. Soo no signs of infection. Then like a few days ago it kinda got like the bellybutton was jelly or like a fluid filled tiny sac inside. Looks like it was trying to heal/scab up. We clean with soap/water and dry really good.
Anyone elses baby having this kinda problem? We dont have a checkup again until the 8th of January.

Hmmm...the weepy stuff sounds normal--as long as it isn't smelling like it's infected...a bit of blood is also ok...
not sure about the jelly part...was it rotally healed before you submerged in water?
I'd clean it with only water on a washcloth...keep it dry...and maybe try some Golden seal...it comes as a powder--mix with water and make into a paste and apply...
HTH!

I second the goldenseal, DD2's cord was looking a little goopy after birth so I used goldenseal, cleared it right up.

Not sure we have goldenseal in Canada...??
We bathed her when her cord was still on...do u think the water caused problems?
Well I will keep an eye on it. Hope it just heals up nicely.

You're usually not supposed to get the stump wet so that may be the problem...maybe try to blowdry the area on cool (not warm/hot!) and don't get it wet again--lots of air time too! try and open it up too!

Well I've been looking up about bellybuttons and I think we found what she has:

Umbilicus Granuloma: piece of tissue that remains in the bellybutton. it drains yellowish fluid. and it can be removed by the dr. but it requires either being tied off, liquid nitrogen or cauterization.
AHHHHHHHHHHH!!! This sounds soo scary.
it says that sometimes it goes away by applying rubbing alcohol several times.
Sooo we'll c.
Its leaking quite a bit today.

Wish us luck. I think we will go to a dr. this week if it doesn't clear up.

My daughter has an umbilical hernia!

So we went to the walk in clinic today becuz her belly button was getting red, and it really is oozy.
The doc said she has an umbilical hernia. And he prescribed some ointment for it. He said that it usually goes away but if it doesnt by age 2-3 then surgery usually occurs.
Ugh!!!
I pray that it just goes away. I've been reading and it says about 85 % of cases the hernia heals itself.

Soo please think of us and pray for easy healing!!!
Thanks!

Talia has a herniated belly button also... it is already going down though, it's about half the size it was initially... my midwife told me that once their stomach muscles get stronger it pulls it in...
