when does the poop talk end???

DS is almost three and throws the word "poop" into many of his silly talk sentences. Does this ever end on its own? I'm not sure if I should step in and tell him not to talk like that (we have said we don't discuss poop at the dinner table), but I also sort of feel like if I don't make a big deal out of it, it might just go away on its own...

Any thoughts??

good question. i have a 3.5 yo, and she is *obsessed*. she always wants to see the babys' poop in his diaper (even if i have already put it in the pail). her "babies" are constantly pooping... it's crazy.

i have no tips, just comiseration!

I know a lot of the time the more attention you pay to the word the more it is reinforced. Their little brains think "Ooooo! That got a reaction out of mom!" So maybe ban it at the dinner table and the rest of the time just ignore it, he'll get bored with it soon. I'm sure it's just a phase.

I'm sorry, but it takes a good long while. Although my kids stopped obsessing about poop at around age 4 or 5, potty humor remains funny well into adolesence (and sometimes beyond!) for most boys

well..judging by our 9, 10 and 13 year old boys, and my 40 year old DH....I'm going to say NO, it doesn't end!!

Living in a house with 4 boys and 1 man.. i'm gonna have to go with the "it doesn't ever end" answer. However, they know where it is not apporpriate and will leave their "potty" humor to each other when it is more appropriate.

They have learned there are just some things mommy doesn't want to hear.

The boys in my house are 4, 9, 13, and 42. It never ends.

I feel for you. I had one sister, no brothers. I never had any idea how boys were. BUT, it does get better. Eventually, they learn to belch the alphabet! Oh, and don't forget armpit farts!

My daughter's 5 and still uses poop and butt in many conversations. We got in trouble with daycare where such words are "no-nos". Whatever. We still use it at home.

Farts too. I guess we're a stinky family.

Hmm. . . dh is 36. . .so I'm guessing 37.

And dss (11) can make his collarbone fart.

37? FIL is 56, so you might want to make that 57.

I'm holding out hope - DH is 33.

I doesn't really bother me. But I don't think it ever really ends. I mean, poop jokes *are* funny after all!

Ok, so I am immature. I laugh at totally inappropriate things.

Oh, thank heavens for that. I'm not sure how to walk this one.
I remember "dinky bum and bellybutton" were the most hilarious, naughty things my sister and I could think of when we were 5 and 3 respectively. It was also one age of extreme bonding.

Right now my son and most especially his best friend think this is the most hilarious thing. It's all "I am a boogerhead" "I am burp man" and "Santa Claus is coming to poo poo". I don't make a big deal of this type of talk as I think it is totally age appropriate and bonding (they never insult other people using this talk, they are generally very silly). When I was little, my parents just rolled their eyes.

However, unlike my son who doesn't talk like this when he doesn't have his friend to laugh with, the friend is completely obsessed with this talk. Apparently he and his sister (who I have been babysitting - for free) are not allowed to talk like this at all at their house. So I guess this is taboo for them.

I don't know what to do, if at all. I don't want to create a fake taboo in my house and think I would be inconsistent in applying it (I mean I would have to monitor their conversations all the time etc). At this point it would be too late to create a rule I didn't believe in anyway.

However, I'm sure it is going to come to a head eventually. I'm already talking to my son about different rules at school and friends houses.

My sister just got my 5 yo daughter a Christmas hat wearing sheep that poops brown jelly beans with a frown on its face. It's hilarious!

OMG i have never heard it put like this. my friends 5 year old could make his neckbones (is that the same as collar) crack - but i dont think i would have used the word 'fart'. does it really make the farting sound. that is sooo hilarious and my dd would have just loved him.
