Iron-On Shirts: Asking for disaster?

We are going to have a robot birthday party for my daughter.

So this was my idea. I will draw a robot and want to put it on the t-shirts, which I will purchase somewhere (?!) at a fabulously low, low price. Then I will bring the t-shirts to the party, and have fabric markers available so each child can color in their own robot t-shirt and take it home as their party favor.

My questions:

1) Am I insane?
2) If I am not insane, can anyone help me out with the logistics, namely:

Where can I purchase about 20 plain white t-shirts? Oh, for cheap?
How do I do an iron-on transfer? What do I need? Is it expensive?

That sounds like a fun party idea, I don't think you are insane.

I've used the iron on transfers which you print on your computer, they have held up for a couple of years now. We found them at most craft or computer stores and they were not that expensive. You can also print more than one image on each transfer and cut them up after printing.

It's important to remember that the image on the T shirt will end up as a mirror image of the one you had on the computer, if thats important to the design you'll need to flip the image on the computer before printing it out. If you don't fancy drawing a robot there are lots of free colouring pages which you can download.

Before the party put a sheet of card inside each t shirt and tape any excess fabric round the back. It makes it much easier for children if the fabric can't bunch up when they are colouring.

I would make sure you go with fabric markers or crayons which need ironing to set them. Maybe even ask parents to send an old T shirt to put over thier party clothes for the actual colouring. I would also print out the instructions for ironing the robot shirts and send them home with each child rather than trying to do it at the party.
