What was this Girl Scout hanger craft?

Help! It's making me crazy!

It was a series of knots, with smooth ribbon or yarn or whatever, kind of like macrame, maybe? You take a wire hanger & it's covered in these, & it actually becomes functional & attractive (I HATE clothes slipping off smooth hangers, & I can never buy enough on sale- I have a few black 'velvet' ones I like, but never enough!) I imagine it would work on my vile plastic hangers too. And besides, my ds is loving knotting crafts so much (yarn loom) I think he might really like it.)

I am too lame to figure it out myself (it has been a long time since I was a Girl Scout!) & EVERY websearch I do has been useless. I give up. I know one of you seriously crafty mamas knows what I am trying to describe so lamely.

Help! Suse

Thank you! That looks like them, but I know we didn't use a hook. I will fiddle with that & see if I can get it together (how convenient to have some Lion Homespun I haven't known what to do with lying around; with knitting, I am all about the wool these days).

*Cry Gnash*

It's not working, with a hook or without. They just say, "Crochet around..." How? I can make a slip knot around it, but crocheting around something, I don't 'get' it.

It was a frustrating pita. I need something for clumsy Girl Scouts that never worked with fibers in their lives, step by step instructions for barely literate children.

ARRRGGGGHHHHH!

I made these for my mom last year! Try doing a macrame knot around the hanger.

I am getting so frustrated! This is the closest (in hours of searching) I've come- yes! Yes! It was this! But it wasn't5 knitted, & the GardenWeb person who thought she knew what she was talking about hasn't come back, & wahhhh!

Why does no one make these any more? They seemed to be common enough in 'the olden days'. (I wouldn't begin to know where to find the slinky material we used for them, esp when I can't even find the technique anywhere!)

It's a lost art, the hanger making!
