Suggested book of gd

So I've been reading some of the post mentioning gd. And now I'm interested..... as my way is not working so well. Looking for suggestions on books or websites to learn more about it.

Someone earlier had mentioned the books "How to Talk so Kids Can Learn" and "Siblings without Rivalry".

Those are both great books!

I would also recommend Dr. Sears The discipline book, Connection Parenting by Pam Leo -- and my person favorite -- Unconditional Parenting by Alfie Kohn.

If you wanted to target just one or two, I would suggest How to talk so kids will listen -- and Unconditional Parenting.

These are books that have really shaped my way of thinking of "discipline".

Good luck!

I love love love Natural Child- Parenting From the Heart by Jan Hunt (and her site www.naturalchild.com) and Becoming the Parent You Want to Be (www.becomingtheparent.com).
BTP is good for beginners with young children, up to 4 or 5yo.
I also liked How To Talk and Loving Your Child is Not Enough (http://www.samalin.com/books/index.html#loving_enough there is also a "Tips" section that has informative articles), which are very similar.

I think whatever book will be helpful relates a lot to your personality and the nature of the problems you are dealing with.

My favorite discipline book is "Kids are Worth It" by Barbara Coloroso. I like it because she describe both her philosophy AND gives practical suggestions. (Many books are heavy on one and light on the other.) Its comprehensive but not meandering or repetetive. Its very very practical.

I also really liked "Kids, Parents and Power Struggles." Also very practical and concrete -- gives you "lines" to practise for specific situations, etc. I like it because she talks a lot about different personality styles among children, and how to relate well to your own kid based on his "type" of processing. So it really acknowleges the individuality and differences between kids.

I love anything by Mary Sheedy Kurcinka

Kid Cooperation by Elizabeth Pantley is my favorite.

"Connection Parenting" by Pam Leo is wonderful and a quick, easy read with terrific and practical alternatives. (Her website, www.connectionparenting.com, has some great articles, my fave is "Spanking Undermines Discipline.")

"Unconditional Parenting" by Alfie Kohn changed my life -- not just as a parent, but as a person.

"Becoming the Parent You Want to Be" by Laura Davis & Janis Keyser -- takes the focus off "problem" kids and puts it where it belongs . . . on YOU.

Good luck!

How to talk so kids will listen, for sure! It`s a wonderful book, with lots and lots of practical advice. A really great book!

I also love Adventures in GD. It is an easy read, plenty of examples from everyday life, and lots of info about why GD is a good thing.

UP is fantastic, too! But in my mind that is a totally different kind of book. Very little practical advice, and a book I know that I myself would not have benefitted much from reading if I hadn`t read quite a few other GD books first.

Jan Hunt`s "the natural child" is amazing. One of my all time favorites. It just makes so, so much sense!
