I know I have it and am wondering if I can get an official diagnosis. The thing is, I'm worried about testing; do they actually exacerbate symptoms by seeing how you react to chemicals? I'm worried because my breathing gets really shallow around most strong chemicals and it takes a few hours to recover, usually.

My diagnosis was pretty much based on self-reported and family-reported symptoms/reactions. The doctor was generally able to observe my reactions from the overly perfumed receptionist and marinating patients in the waiting room, too, since I was pretty much useless by the time I got to the exam room. I've had skin patch testing, too, but that was just to try to narrow down some other problems.
