Milk Production Question

Okay, as we get closer and closer to my due date the ONLY thing I'm kinda wondering about (about pg / labour) is the fact that I haven't noticed any kind of leaking, colostrum production... nothing.
Does that matter? As long as baby is/can nurse I'm all good. Is it normal if one does not leak before birth? or is it typical for all to leak before?

Am I even making sense?

btw: i feel new sensations in my cervix and I THINK i had some BH earlier today (belly got a bit hard and things felt a little tight, nothing that caused discomfort really) Either way I think my body is starting to get ready for birth. Which is way exciting for me!

I have never leaked colostrum, and I rarely leak once my milk comes in (really only leak at night for the first couple weeks). Don't let whether or not you are leaking worry you about your milk production. I tandem nursed my boys and produced a TON of milk but never leaked.

I never leaked while pg either, and could never get any to appear through manual stimulation, etc. Once I gave birth, I had to pump, since my baby was in the NICU. The day she was born, I pumped every 2-3 hours, and not a drop appeared. The next day I got a few drops, and day 3, significantly more. At her first pediatricians appointment (at 8 days old), I told her dr how much milk I was pumping, and she laughed and said that was probably enough for twins or triplets.

So I wouldn't worry about it-- you are going to make lots and lots of milk.

And it's great that you can feel your body getting closer to labor- it IS exciting.

With each of my previous pregnancies, I never leaked at all before birth.

With this one, I had just a few drops of colostrum leak out in the last 2-3 days before delivery. By that time my body was obviously in pre-labor stage (meaning things were changing but I didn't really know it until hindsight.)

Don't worry. When your body gets the signal that you've birthed your baby, milk production will begin in earnest! Just trust that your body and your baby will know what to do.

blessings,

I never leaked when pg. My milk came in the 2nd day after birth (and I had a c-section - I mention that because I had been warned it might delay my milk). Then for months and months we dealt with OVERsupply. Try not to worry!

I haven't leaked, but I can express a tiny bit. I mean like a little drop out of each nipple! I think it's so cool! My body makes food! But anyways, I haven't leaked, not even when my husband *ahem* stimulates that area.

I didn't leak pre-birth and definitely have NO trouble making milk now. If I go too long between feedings, I can definately tell.

ELV's to you.

Glad to hear that I am on one side of normal.
Thanks for the reassurance.
Both Dh and I think we're going to have a cute x-mas gift this year. We're thinking that we'll go into real labour on the 24th. We'll see. We could be totally off!

I didn't really leak with my first that I remember.

Nope I never leaked and could never even hand-express colostrum after my daughters were born.. but if I pumped, I got some. Now that DD is here and the milk is in, I leak milk freaking ALL the time... I go through 5 shirts a day. How do I go from no leakage to a constant drip?

Another one who's never leaked before delivery, though I'm very, very leaky for at least the first nine months. Which is a huge PITA.

I didn't leak when I was pregnant either, and now I can't get it to stop! I can't wait for the day that I don't go through breast pads like crazy! Don't worry, you're completely normal.
