I totally know that this has to have been discussed here. However I cant search thru like 234 pages of threads to find what Im looking for. I was thinking about the Laura Ingalls Wilder series and how some use that to teach a bit about American History. Can anyone suggest some good books they might use to 'teach' about world history, or European History?

You may wish to check out

The Well Trained Mind (Jessie Wise and Susan Wise Bauer),

Charlotte Mason approach book lists (free online curriculum at http://www.amblesideonline.org), and

Rebecca Rupp's books (like Home Learning Year by Year)

for a start on some book lists.

When we are studying a different part of the world, the first thing I do is look for authentic folk tales from that part of the world.

Ds is really enjoying the Stoy of the World books by Susan wise Baur. These are interesperced with cultural stories to make the time periods quite interesting. As a non-Christian, I nontheless appreciated the stories that were relevent to the history (such as Moses, Joseph, Greek myths, etc...), without prosetlysing. This series of books cover the western world quite well.

Dd especially enjoys the Eyewitness series from DK Publishing; in fact that is all she asked for for gifts the last couple years. Great illustrations, with interesting descriptions. I personally don't like the non-linear, unrelated pictures and pages. I prefer a straight written text. So much is a matter of style. How about The Diary of Anne Frank?
