What extra-curricular activities do your kids participate in?

I'm trying to come up with some good extra things for my kids. My girls dont like sports and my ds6 cant do contact sports because of his vision.
I was thinking girl/boy scouts? What extra fun things do your kids do? I need creative ideas here

DD#1 does children's theater classes. They are very play-oriented, which I like. Very into using the kids imaginations and letting them be themselves. She also does swimming, which although yes, it is a sport, it is a life-skill and needs to be learned. Lastly we do regular classes at the local stream care center to learn about animals and environmentalism.

DD#2 will start swimming in January, as well as gymnastics. She's only three and a natural gymnist already.

We looked into Girl Scouts, but it was impossible to get in "because the troop is full". I found out later that they organize them through schools, so now I'm not interested in having her play with a bunch of ps kids. We will likely do 4H next year.

Well my oldest son plays lacrosse and hockey but he loves sports.
We tried to put my youngest son in soccer one year he spent most of his time walking around with his arms behind his back with the occasional discussion with the refs on calls they made!
This year he took a class on making clay things (a cookie jar, statue, dragon) he really enjoyed it as he loves to draw and make stuff.
Good luck!

Right now all 3 of my kids are in dance. Dd(13) takes Musical Theater and Advanced Hip-Hop. Dd(10) in is the "company" and takes about 10 hrs of dance a week including 6 hrs of technique and choreography, Lyrical, Musical Theater, Kickline, and Advanced Hip-Hop - plus weekly solo lessons and extra rehearsals and shows with an national performance team several times a year. Ds(5) takes Musical Theater and a Hip-Hop class made up of all boys. He also has a solo lesson about once a week.

Dd (13) is the kind of kid who prefers to try all different things instead of sticking with one for years. She has taken classes in Gymnastics, Healthy Cooking, Aikido, and Tap dancing. Ds (5) was on a little league baseball team for a while last year.

Over the years, the girls have also done some Community Theater, Girl Scouts, and all 3 kids will join Spiral Scouts through our homeschool group.

My oldest is in Girl Scouts, participates in a homeschool swim and gym, and takes ice skating lessons.

My middle child takes Spanish, goes to swim and gym, and takes ice skating lessons.

My youngest child goes to swim and gym and takes ice skating lessons.

Occasionally, if the rec center has a class I know a certain child would love, I sign that child up for it.

Btw, there are several homeschool Daisy/Brownie/Girl Scout troops in our area. Call your council to see if there are any near you. My daughter participates in a small troop with schooled kids.

Namaste!

Rain has done soccer, softball, community and professional theatre, ceramics, tons of dance (all kinds, but mostly ballet now), voice lessons, jazz choir, a book club, girl scouts, volunteering (animal shelter, historic farm, theatre class assistant teacher)... that's all I can remember but there may have been more.

My daughter does dance, gymnastics, and cheerleading. Last year she did a pottery class. Both kids do a homeschool swim and gym class at the Y once a week.

We meet with the homeschool group once a week and go to library storytimes once a week.

The big two have taken several months of swimming lessons and start a new session in January. All three will be in gymnastics in March, and my oldest takes an instensive 2 week pottery class every summer.

In the past, the big two have also taken ballet.

Currently:

Ice skating- midday open skate once a week with two other hs families. Our current big favorite.
Swimming- open swim.
Library-tween time one afternoon a week (we love our librarian!!)

Outings just ourselves or with friends, either single families or bigger groups of our unstructured hs group.

The biggest hit--getting together with hs friends (met through various activities).

We like doing one (maybe two at most) structured activities a week.

In the past:
Another good non-competitive sport: rock climbing class at the Y.

We also have done soccer, and hs classes at the local nature center, public garden, arts center (clay, mostly), a local college (homeschool science--ok, but too school-like).

Our thing is sports. Though as the boys get older, I'm sure they'll do other things (ds 7 will start Piano sometime in the next year probably). So here, it's sports. Soccer Tots for little ds , flag football, baseball, soccer, swimming, basketball for older ds.

Ellie takes an art history class, piano, knitting (at the library with a bunch of other kids where they talk talk talk ) and tap dancing. She is requesting to drop dance, so we are thinking about that. She loves piano, knitting and art

DD1 does Akido and Monart. We all do Music Together, though this is the last year. When that ends, she'll start music lessons, though I'll probably be teaching initially. January 2008 we're going to start DD2 in Do Jump! (she's incredibly physical, but too young as of yet) and DD1 can join at that time if she wishes. I'm not willing to schedule any more time than this (other than for something like weekend swimming lessons with Dad), at least for a couple years.

Year Round

Ds does Martial Arts. Right now it's once per week but he has to option to go twice a week when he's ready.

"School Year"

We are part of a homeschool group that meets every week or every other week for field trips and other activities. They don't meet in the summer.

Summer

D does other sports, like tennis, soccer, basketball, whatever he feels like and we can fit into the schedule.

He has at least a few weeks worth of swim lessons.

He, also, does a musical camp. They meet everyday, all day, for one week and at the end of the week put on a show. It's mostly singing, with some dancing and skits. D really loves it.

He's not a kid that needs to do a lot and I'm glad. He does the marital arts and homeschool group. We fill in the summer gaps as he wants with no more than two heavy or three light activities at a time.
