Democratic Presidential Debate - Page 2

hmmmm. Someone waiting in the wings? Perhaps the perfect liberal candidate exists....?

I still like Dean, but was not as 'enthused' about him after the debate as I was previously. Largely due to him and Kerry hassling each other a bit. But, (un-like Maher) I think he's very smart.

I do think we will have a Bush/Lieberman rematch though
From what the recent polls say.

Dean is worlds ahead on internet polls, but I believe the tele polls show Lieberman then Kerry?

*Maher voted for DOLE!!!????* OMG!

I think Lieberman would have a shot only if the Dems (including the primary voters) continue to be as appallingly spineless as they were in the 2002 election season. Otherwise, Lieberman will fall into the ash can, with a plethora of other would-be candidates.

I've heard from some well-placed folks that Kerry is the only present Democratic candidate with a shot of winning. Personally, I've not had enough oppotunity to evaluate everyone yet. Kucinich is not yet (nor, I'll guess, will ever be) ready for prime time, regardless of how much anyone might like his views. While I personally like Dean the best so far, I understand he can grate rather hard...too hard, so some folks think, to be a reasonable front runner. Edwards? - he's got the initial bucks, but for gawd's sakes, he's a dyed-in-the-wool PLAINTIFF'S lawyer. While that's fine and dandy, it won't fly as a presidential candidate in these times. And the list goes on....

I had been starting to think that I might actually vote for a Democrat just to try to get Bush out of office. But if Lieberman is the opponent I will definitely vote Green. Lieberman is "Bush-lite".

Now I have a question: why is it that the voters in Iowa and NH get to decide who gets on the ticket?? Doesn't seem to fair to me.....

Then again there is so much about our voting system that isn't fair.....

sigh.

I hope, for her sake, she waits it out, and I think she will - she said she was in the Senate for the full first term, and I think she means it and needs it - to build experience - but when her time is ready - she's gonna go the distance!

Diedra~perhaps we should all move to Iowa or NH for a while???

ITA that Lieberman is "Bush Lite" and I'm sure many progressive voters would have a very hard time supporting him.... I think it would be a dream for Republicans to have a Bush/Lieberman re-match so to speak. I supported he and Gore in 2000, and would vote for him against Bush, but I would not be 'thrilled' about it. And, I honestly don't think he would beat Bush this time around.

Wow, Hilary running, that would be exciting

Here are some interesting tid-bits about the primarys...

Don't get discouraged about the "W. would win 2:1" polls--they are asking people about the Dems by name, and most people don't want to say they'd vote for someone whose name they don't even recognize! By the time of the election, that will be very different.

Does anybody know the views of the Dem candidates on the War On Some Drugs? I e-mailed the Dean and Kucinich campaigns about this but didn't get any response so far...it's been a couple of weeks.

Fire the consultants, find some core values and speak from the heart, and then maybe one of the candidates will have a chance against Bush

Happily for both Kerry and Dean, practically no one was watching.
Not because I didn't want to!!!

I really wanted to read the article but it ended up just ticking me off. Anyone who can write, and expect people to believe, that Clinton did not have a liberal view of "welfare" just blows my mind. And:

Quote:
George W. Bush is everything Democrats have not been—bold, decisive, uncomplicated, a man of real convictions who has not been afraid to take unpopular positions.
Its easy to take "unpopular" decisions when they are backed by the media and everyone with the money, isn't it.

I wish another 4 years of Bush meant that the "compassionate" part of compassionate conservatism would get its turn.

I hope so too. If Bush/Cheney win 2004 she is poised for a takeover in 2008. But if another Dem wins 2004, where would she be in 2008/20012 even? *thats* my concern. Of course, #1 concern is getting shrub off his throne!

*They lost me here too.
I don't think he is decisive, bold and uncomplicated. I think he's wreckless and ignorant.
