I just received our pork share from our local farmer today. There are 34 pounds of pork shoulder roast. What the heck am I supposed to do with 34 pounds of pork shoulder roast?!? I've never even made pork shoulder roast in my life. :

HELP!

ETA: How many shoulders can one pig have, anyway?!?

I just made a pork stew that was really delicious. Cubed then browned and simmered in broth with onion, garlic, veggies & herbs... we ate it over pasta but over a grain pilaf would be good too. Or just throw in potatoes and call it a meal.

Slow cooked in bbq sauce might be really yummy too...

For a whole roast, just sprinkle with sage and roast in the oven with potatoes, apples and onions. If you got some bacon too, drape a few pieces over the roast before putting it in the oven.

I grew up on pork we raised ourself, man was that stuff good!

Hmmm....you can make barbecue pork with some of it. Roast some of it as PP suggested, and make soup. Then there's oriental stuff--toss some in a stir-fry, or make sweet and sour pork.

I cut mine into strips and make char siu (Chinese BBQ pork) with mine, but I only do 5-10 pounds at a time. Afterwards I slice it finely and freeze it to toss into stir-fries and noodles. Here's a link: http://visualrecipes.com/recipe-deta...-Roasted-Pork/

I cut mine smaller and roast it directly in a foil-lined pan with some marinade, because my oven gets gunked up fast enough. There are lots of recipes for the marinade, but that link has photos

I generally use pork shoulder in place of pork loin in recipes; it is fattier but a darn sight cheaper.

Throw it in a crockpot and cover w/ salsa.

Cook til it falls apart, or til the smell makes you drool.

Shred, and serve w/ sour cream and cheese (in a tortilla if you want, in a bowl if you don't.)

Toss it in a crock pot with a little water (maybe a half inch on the bottom) and roast all day--yummer. My daughter loves this. The leftovers are great with bbq sauce.

You could also cover it in saurkraut and roast it in the oven or crock pot. My mom always used to cook pork in saurkraut and it is one of my most favorite things.

Can you make some bacon with it ? There's a book called charcuterie(sp?) which has recipes for bacon etc in. You could do some sausages too if you have a mincer. You could also render some of the fat to make lard.

I'd still get the saw out & cut it up & freeze what we couldn't immediataly eat.
