Turkey help please?

I just picked up my lovely, fresh, local free-range turkey at the food co-op today! The only problem is that it's quite a bit bigger than I expected -- nearly 17 lbs! I'm not hosting Christmas dinner; I just wanted a non-chemical turkey for my family to enjoy, and the Holidays are about the only time I can get them. I definately wanted left-overs, but I'm thinking this will be waaayy too much! :

Sooo, my question is can I roast just half of it? I would cut up the other half into parts and freeze them for later use (as an alternative to chicken, for example). If I can do this, *how* would I do it? Any thoughts??

You could roast the whole thing, then save various parts for re-heating, using in soups, etc. later. It should freeze just fine cooked.

Yeah, that was my original intention, but now I'm thinking that having some cuts frozen raw would make them much more versitile. I would have *a lot* of frozen pre-cooked meat if I did the whole bird! Not a bad thing, but a bit more limited in it's use, kwim? Thanks for the suggestion!
