Autolyzed Yeast Extract?

Is this a bad thing?

I've just caught a cold and ran out of home-made chicken stock at the same time...and until I get a nap and have strength to go buy a chicken and make stock all I have is Trader Joe's packaged dried Miso Soup. All the other ingredients are great (not as good a fresh, home-made...but real miso and fish anyways) but I didn't know if this ingredient is awful or not.

According to msgtruth.org/avoid.htm autolyzed yeast extract should be avoided because it contains
Quote:
MSG or its business end - the free amino acid glutamate - in amounts large enough to cause reactions in those sensitive to it.
Having said that, if you aren't highly reactive to glutamates (and I know everyone should as a general rule avoid them) then I'd probably go ahead and have the soup. In my husband's case I would avoid it like the plague given his strong reaction to glutamates.

HTH!

It's just another name for MSG. Check out the Truth in Labeling website.

Ahh bummer..I will promptly toss the stuff. Luckily, I think my immune system is getting stronger with all these healthy TF and I kicked that cold with 11 hours of sleep anyways hehe.
