Did you feel the "ring of fire?" - Page 4

No. My midwife had hot clothes that she used on my perenium mabye that made a difference?
I don't remember feeling it.

No i don't rememmber a ring of fire i remember a slight sting when i tore with chloe and cameron but no ring of fire

I felt it with my first, she was a hospital birth, and there was no perineal massage, etc.
The last three were water births and I did not feel it then.

I remember a quick, burning sensation but it all happened so fast. It was definitely nothing like I have heard. The pushing stage was relatively painless for me, more like a hard work out and I was just totally focused on getting him out of there!

Yes, with ds 2 I had the ring of fire and the entire time I pushed the Johnny Cash song was going through my head
I was pushing on a birthing stool while my OB performed perineal massage with warm olive oil.

YES! After my second birth I was even sure I had a huge tear because it had hurt so much when she came through. But it turned out to be a half centimeter long first degree - hardly worth even noticing. Never had any pains in it afterwards either.

I felt it but it didn't bug me at all. I was just so happy to be pushing!

Pushing was a huge relief for me, so I didnt notice it. And I ended up having a horrible tear (I only pushed for like 5 seconds, and was only in labour for 10 minutes) that needed 56 stitches.

Oh, I sure did! With my first daughter, I was all about getting the epidural specifically because everyone I knew said that didn't feel their child come out during the pushing phase, and the exit is what terrified me. Unfortunately, my epidual didn't take, so I felt everything anyway. I felt like someone set my crotch on fire, and then I tore upwards. At that point I yelled that I wanted a C-section, I was quitting, and my doctor said, "It's a little late for that. No one can get this kid out now except for you."

Talk about stepping off the proverbial cliff.

I am going to give birth to my next one in a birth center, preferably in the tub, no pain meds. I figure what is the point? It didn't help the first time, and now I know that my body is capable of doing what it needs to do to give birth. I am so looking forward to this birth, ring of fire or not!

nak

i sure did! i stopped and said "ok that one hurt!" when he was crowning. i had a great ob. the only time she "told" me to push was when he was crowning. basically she was just telling me that the only way to get through and past the pain was to push it away. it worked! he was all the way out about two contractions later.

(per my birth plan, there was no directed pushing - no counting, no "hold your breath" - none of that. they were great!)

No. I didn't even know the baby was crowning. I just felt pressure, but I expected a ring of fire, so when I didn't get it, so when I didn't have one, I didn't know he was coming!

Felt it with both of my unmedicated births. With DD #2 I had no coaching for the pushing at all. I pushed on my hands and knees just as I had labored. It was what felt right to me. Maybe it was because she was posterior. But in any event oh yeah I felt the ball of fire and pushing did not feel good for me. Being done pushing though felt fabulous. Oh and my midwife used warm cloths and arnica oil. I can not say that it made any difference over the birth where we didn't use those things.

yes I felt it at all 4 births-
Oh Yes I did! For all of my children's births except the twins who were delivered by c-section. The worst part for me is the pushing!
yes, with all 4 of my vaginal births. Of course it only lasted a second but I felt if. Ouch!

I felt it with my first 7 births. Then I switched to waterbirth and it's not nearly as bad.

The pain is intense, stinging, it hurts. I catch myself stopping pushing when I feel it, then I start pushing again to make it go away as fast as possible.

That's how I have 2 minute deliveries.

Yes, yes, yes, holy mother of all that's good - yes. I felt it the first three times, and yowsa, whoa - whoever said you forget the pain of childbirth must have been senile! With #4, his birth was five times more painful than the others all around, so maybe that's why I didn't feel it then! Gotta love those posterior births!

Thank goodness I'm not the only one. I thought about it when I was pushing #3 out!

Nope

I did with my DD and with my second DS. I didn't with my first DS (2nd child). With my daughter it was very apparent. With my second son I felt it slightly but it was the huge burning sensation I had with my daughter.

Interestingly enough my second child (1st DS) was born with a nuchal hand. He stayed *right there* at crowning for a little bit though, so maybe I had time to stretch. My midwives were also applying compresses and that helped some I'm sure.
