How long will whey stay usable?

I don't know how to phrase this-does whey go bad? Will it turn into something rotten in the fridge or just become something else, like all my other dairy?
I only use a few tablespoons each week and I buy it in quarts. I think next time I may freeze it in smaller portions. What do you all think?

It lasts a few months up to even a year in the fridge as long as it is well strained from all the milk solids. I would say it could go over a year, but I've never had it that long.

really a year!? strange! I was thinking I should be getting rid of it at like the end of the week or something. I was bummed b/c I couldn't see how anyone could use an entire quart in a week! I thought it was a huge waste or something.

good to know! (thanks Suzy! )
