My soap crayons are a FLOP! help!

Man, what did I do wrong?
I grated Ivory soap, mixed it with a couple tbs of water.... it never really melted down, it was still kinda a cottage cheese variety.
I packed it in an ice tube tray, froze it for overnight, and then turned out the crayons to dry...
they have been drying for several days and are still very very soft and flaky...

advice?

No advice, cause I havent made any before but we were going to next weekend....so I am interested to hear others advice!
