Sore abdomen

Hi there,

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced the following...

I've had a cold/flu the last couple of days with coughing, sneezing, and nose-blowing. Now, my stomach muscles (I hope) are really sore. I say, "I hope" b/c it's been hard to determine what hurts exactly but there seems to be a strip of tenderness/tightness to the right of my belly button that is hurting more and more. And, my whole belly feels really tight too.

Do you think it's just muscular...strained muscles???

1st timer here and never sure what I'm actually feeling! heh heh :

I've had this happen three times with this pregnancy! Mine appears to be related to abodminal surgery that I had in February. The scar tissue isn't stretcing well/easily and sometimes it gets painful, especially if I am really active and lifting DD or other things frequently. The muscles feel strained and sore. It's worse if I poke at it or do things to pull them more (stretch/lift/etc) It was so bad one night that I took tylenol, but in all three cases it has gone away within a few days. I did call my midwife the first time it happened because I was worrried.

Hey there - thanks for responding.

Did the Tylenol help? Were there any positions or other things you did that helped? I've been trying to get on my hands and knees which helps but can only do that for so long, you know?

Yes the tylenol helped I also put warm rice sock on my belly, which helped too, as did shower/baths. I treated it like a sore/pulled muscle.

There is a name for the muscles actually seperating, my midwife said it usually happens at the midline of your abdomen (above the belly button, towards the top of your big belly) and you can usually feel the muscles seperated,

You could have strained your round ligaments, too. I have intermittent discomfort from them, occasionally sharp pains too if I move wrong. That I feel sort of an inch or two in from my hip bone, and then at the top. There's just a small sore spot (that my DD somehow always manages to elbow : ).

But it could just be your regular abs being strained too, from coughing. I have this cold too, I feel your pain. Nothing worse than being 9 months pregnant than being SICK and 9 months pregnant, eh?

Feel better soon!

You could try some arnica homeopathic tabs internally, or some arnica gel externally, in combination with all of the things you are already doing. Hope you feel better soon!
